James W. Violette was born in Coalinga, Calif., and passed away after a brief illness Tuesday, March 12, 2013, in San Luis Obispo. His parents were Fred and Evalyn Violette, and they owned Walker's Cafe in Coalinga until the earthquake in the 1980s. Jim attended Coalinga schools from kindergarten through college, where he graduated with an AS degree. He began his long career with oil industry in Taft, Calif., in 1973. He was transferred to Kenai, Alaska, in 1975 to head up the new division as representative, and later as the District Manager. He had a larger area of responsibility, which included the Cook Inlet and the North Slope. He was transferred back to California in 1998 and settled in Morro Bay. He worked for Petrolite Corp. and later Nalco for over 40 years and valued the many friends made there. Jim received many awards and honors during his years in the oil industry. He was named "Million Dollar Salesman" twice during his career in Alaska. He belonged to BPOE for over 50 years and the Coalinga Rifle Club, where he spent many happy hours with his buddy, David. He loved teaching his grandson "CJ" to fish, and spent many happy hours with his granddaughter, Parker Olivia, bike riding, hiking, going to the beach and the park. Jim was so very loved by his family and many friends - he will be greatly missed. Jim is survived by his wife, Judi; daughters Denise Raulli of Mission Viejo, Calif.; Allison Violette of Grover Beach; and Nicole Violette of Kenai; grandson, Christopher "C.J." Raulli of Mission Viejo; and granddaughter, Parker Olivia Violette of Grover Beach. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2013, a the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, 40054 Calaveras Ave. in Coalinga, followed by a celebration of life at the Mountain Oyster, 260 Van Ness St., also in Coalinga.
