Francis Walsh & Philomone Young Walsh on October 12, 1926 at the family farm in Easton, NY. Pat graduated from Schuylerville High School in Schuylerville, NY. She continued her education at the State University of NY at Oswego, graduating with a degree in education. She married Richard C. Smaldone of South Glens Falls, NY, in 1947. The couple celebrated 56 years of marriage until Richard's death in 2003. Pat began her teaching career in elementary education in 1947 at the Corinth Central School System, Corinth, NY and finally retired from Tanglewood Elementary School in South Glens Falls, NY in 1981. After her retirement she volunteered with numerous organizations including The Hyde Collection Art Museum in Glens Falls, NY. She was a member of the Red Hat Society. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard; her parents Francis & Philomone & her sisters: Claire (Edson) Winslow, Mildred (Glenn) Violette, Helen (Roscoe) Bain, Barbara (Angus) McDonald, & Kathleen (Mark) Duby. She is survived by her son, Bruce Thomas Smaldone, grandson, Nicholas Sarto (Ashley) Smaldone, great grandsons, Eric Michael Mayer & Alexander Maximus Smaldone; and numerous nieces and nephews and former students. 11025 | PATTEN – Mabel D. Campbell, 90, died Jan. 23, 2007, in Millinocket. She was born Nov. 27, 1916, the daughter of Donald and Yvonne Shorrette. Mabel was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church Sodality, the Patten Grange, the Shin Pond Babes and the Patten Senior Citizens. She is survived by Rufus Campbell of Southwest Harbor, Gary Campbell of Patten, Donnis Campbell of Southwest Harbor, Bruce and his wife, Norma Campbell, of Patten, Danny and his wife, Maryann Campbell, of Zephyrhills, Fla., and Norridgewock; two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; a half brother, Leland Shorrette of Bristol, Conn.; and a half sister, Geraldine Soprano of Meredin, Conn. She was predeceased by her husband, Gilbert. 11026 | PATTEN, SOUTHWEST HARBOR AND BREWER - Rufus Leroy Campbell, 76, passed away Monday morning, June 1, 2015, at the Brewer Center for Health & Rehabilitation after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born September 17, 1938, in Patten, the son of Gilbert and Mabel (Shorette) Campbell. He served in the U.S. Air Force and retired after 20 years as a Technical Sergeant and Food Service Supervisor. He then worked for SERVPRO® as a cleaning and restoration professional, and Shaw's® Supermarket as a baker. His passions in life were cooking, especially at large family events, woodworking - building furniture, bird houses and more, and spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by three brothers, Bruce and Donis of Patten and Danny of Florida; four stepchildren, Lisa Bono of Florida and Jon Bono, Jennifer Cooper and Jeremy Bono, all of New Hampshire; and five beloved stepgrandchildren, Ryan Bono of Florida, and Quinlan Gill, Mason Cooper, Libby and Will Bono, all of New Hampshire. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Gary; and his beloved wife, Geraldine Marie Campbell. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta, Maine. 11027 | PAUL ANDREW AUDET SR. 1926-2016 WATERVILLE - Paul Andrew Audet Sr., 89, died Sunday, Feb. 14, 2016 at Mount Saint Joseph in Waterville in the loving care of his family. Paul was born on April 20, 1926 to Francis and Mary Alice Audet and was educated in Waterville. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy as soon as he was able and was a gunner on two Liberty Ships, the Thomas Fitzsimons and the William G. Fargo, protecting the crew and supplies needed for the war effort in Europe. After the war, Paul settled back in Fairfield and met the love of his life, Lucille Violette. They were married on Sept. 6, 1948 in Fairfield and made their home on Military Ave. for over 60 years. Paul was employed for many years by the L.N. Violette Company and then spent the last 25 years of his working career at Keyes Fibre Company, working as a millwright. Paul's wartime experiences were the beginning of his lifelong interest in traveling and enjoying the sights and sounds of other places in this world. But while he enjoyed air travel, cruises with his wife, and their motorhome for a several years, some of the best times were summers at China Lake and his activities at home. Paul was a lifelong learner and had many interests and talents. He was accomplished in music and was so proud to use his vocal talents in the churches he faithfully attended his entire life. He was a communicant of the former Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Fairfield and Sacred Heart Church, now Corpus Christi Parish, in Waterville. He was also a member of the Treble Clef Choral Society and enjoyed those performances with other musicians in the Waterville area. He was a talented woodworker and used his retirement to design and build clocks and other treasured family pieces. Paul was never idle even in retirement. He loved his volunteer roles at Ken-a-Set and the Sacred Heart Church soup kitchen where he served for 20 years. Survivors include Lucille, his loving wife of 67 years; and five children, Rebecca, and her husband, Paul Comeau of Florida and Colorado; Eve and her husband, Joe Foley, of Burnham. Paul A. Audet Jr. "Andy" of Benton, Sarah, and her husband John Dewitt of Sidney, and Thomas and his wife Heather Audet of Brewer; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Paul was predeceased by his parents; brothers and sisters, Irene, William, Robert, Lillian, Jeannine, Gerald; and a granddaughter, Susan Comeau-Nguyen. At Paul's request, there will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 29, 2016, at Notre Dame Catholic Church, Silver Street, Waterville, with private burial at a later date. 11029 | Pauline V. (Violette) Garland, 80, passed peacefully on Monday, Oct. 30, 2023, at the Maine Veterans Home in Augusta with family at her side. She was born in Augusta, a daughter of Amedee and Christine (Lacasse) Violette and attended St. Augustine Catholic School and graduated from Cony High School (61). Growing up she worked at Sunset Market, which her parents owned. She worked at LaVerdiere’s and Viner’s Music both in Bangor. She retired as a receptionist from Eastern Fine Paper in Brewer. In 1988, she married Phillip Garland, and they became snowbirds. They enjoyed social gatherings with their Bay Island Community friends and their summers at their quiet oasis on Green Lake. Pauline enjoyed crafting, knitting, playing Farkle, and dancing. Fitness was a focus in her life. She had attained her black belt in Karate earlier and continued exercising and walking many miles daily. She was very beautiful inside and out. She was a humble, hardworking, warm, and nurturing woman. She is loved by all and will be missed immensely. Surviving Pauline is her son, Mark Howell and his wife Rebecca; grandchildren Garrett and Clayton Howell and Clay’s wife Lenore; sisters Carmen Thibodeau, Arlene Garwood and her husband Joe; aunt Lucienne Lacasse Arbour; nieces and nephews Karen Otten, Claire Burns, Tyler Pruett, and Erika Turner. She also had many great nieces and nephews, Kristin, Bradley, Nathan, Max, Mackenzie, Josie, Sophie, Lucy, Reve and Teague; some of whom affectionately called her “Ma Tante Tanante”. Pauline’s stepchildren from the Garland family include Jonni-Anne Carlisle and her husband Colin, Jane Demaso and her husband John, Joseph Garland, and Jayson Shubert and his wife Allison; grandchildren Tiffany Milligan, Abigail, Joshua and Michael Garland, and William Shubert. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband Phil; stepson James Garland; grandson Adam Carlisle; sister Diane Pruett; and former husband Richard Howell. The family also wishes to thank the Maine Veterans Home and Androscoggin Hospice for the wonderful care given to Pauline during her stay. 11042 | PHILIAS J CYR OLD TOWN March Philias Cyr 82 a resident of 401 South Main Street died Sunday night at a Bangor Hospital after a short illness. He was born at Grand Falls June 13 1875 the son of the late Francis and Celina (Good-row) Cyr. Employed by the Penobscot Chemical Fibre Company at Great Works for more than 30 years. Mr Cyr had retired about 10 years ago. He was a member of St Joseph's Catholic Church. Surviving are six daughters Mrs Lawrencg Morin Old Town, Mr Edna Pochini Arlington Mass., Mrs Mabel Hamilton and Mrs Lillian Petrie both of Bangor, Mrs Cecilia Cyr of Old Town and Mrs Mary Tomasiili Rochester, six sons Dennis Cyr Greenfield Mass., Leo of Bucksport, Ludger of Rockville Conn., Maurice of Bangor, Francis of Millinocket and Wilfred of Washington; 15 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two brothers, Thomas and Oneztme Cyr of Grand Falls, and two sisters Mrs Flavie Mazerolle and Mrs Alice Levesque both of Grand Falls. 11043 | Philip "Skip" Dumais, 77, husband, father, grandfather, mentor, and community leader, passed away from a neurogenic bladder on November 22, 2023, at the Aroostook House of Comfort in Presque Isle. Born and raised in Van Buren, Skip got his nickname as a young child when uncles serving in the Navy sent him a sailor suit to wear. His grandmother called him "Skipper" and the name stuck. But instead of joining the Navy, Skip joined the U.S. Army. After graduating from Van Buren Boys High School in 1964, Skip enlisted and got stationed at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, as a food inspection specialist and veterinary aide caring for the pets of high-ranking officials, including President Lyndon B. Johnson's dogs. After military life, Skip learned numerous trades from relaying sewers in Boston to building jet engines as a machinist for Pratt & Whitney in Connecticut. On returning to Maine, Skip became a licensed master plumber and started his own business known as Aroostook Country Mechanical, which he kept for more than 40 years. Skip's notoriety in the state of Maine came from 30 years as general manager of the Van Buren Water District and Van Buren Light & Power District, which he retired from in 2020. During his tenure, Skip was instrumental in creating a conservation easement on 333 acres of property that surrounds the town's reservoir, Violette Brook Lake. Skip spent countless hours maintaining trails around the lake for recreational use and there are now plaques affixed there in his honor. Skip also served on the board and committees of the Maine Water Utilities Association and in 2021, received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his dedication to public drinking water. Skip was renowned in the community for his sense of humor and easygoing nature. In his spare time, he enjoyed canoeing, biking, cross-country skiing, and bird watching. He loved being outdoors in every season, even switching to studded tires on his bicycle in winter months so he could continue to ride. Skip also loved spoiling his grandkids with all the treats Tulsa could provide and playing pool with his daughters at the American Legion where all of them were longtime members. Skip is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mona J. (Doucette) Dumais. He is also survived by his daughter, Nicole "Nicki" Pellenz and her husband, Jason, of Scarborough; his daughter, Shelli Dumais and her husband, Gregory Gibbons, of Fort Gregg-Adams, Virginia; his four grandchildren, Jacob and Brynn Pellenz, and Syla and Gregory Kevin Gibbons. Skip is also survived by his youngest sister, Maureen Chick and her husband, Scott, of Lisbon. Skip was predeceased by his parents, Louis Dumais and Velma (Tilley) Green; his brother, Gregory Dumais; and his sister, Louise Violette and her husband, Larry. 11044 | Philip Adams Garland, 83, died peacefully at his home in Dedham. He was born November 3, 1931 in Bangor, son of Joseph D. and Carolyn (Adams) Garland. Phil was educated in the Bangor public schools, Deerfield Academy and a 1954 graduate of Bowdoin College. Phil served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956 as Company Commander First Lieutenant and was a recipient of the National Defense Medal. Phil was a well-known self-employed financial adviser in the greater Bangor area. On February 29, 1992 he married Pauline Howell and they enjoyed spending winters in South Pasadena, FL and summers at Green Lake. He was a member of St. Andrews Lodge #83 AF & AM of Bangor, Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Bangor, a member of the Eastern Star Lodge of Perfection, Palestine Council Princes of Jerusalem, Most Wise Master, Bangor Chapter of Rose Croix, Maine Consistory 32 ° and was coronated a 33 ° on September 27, 1988 and a honorary member of the Supreme Council of the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction of the United States of America. Phil was also a member of Anah Shriners and the Royal Order of Jesters. Phil enjoyed fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, skiing and he loved to tell jokes and had plenty of tricks up his sleeves. Surviving in addition to his wife, Pauline (Violette) Garland of Dedham and Florida are his children: Jane and her husband, John Demaso of Hancock; Jonni-Anne Carlisle and her husband, Colin of Brewer, Joseph Garland of Dedham and James Garland of Bradley; two stepsons, Jayson Shubert and Mark Howell and his wife, Rebecca of Gardiner; grandchildren, Tiffany, Abby, Joshua, Michael, Garrett and Clayton and his sister, Joanne Heber of Dedham. Mr. Violette studied at the High School of Music and Art in New York, New York from 1968–71 and there earned the Regent's Scholarship. He studied composition with Elliott Carter and Roger Sessions and counterpoint with Otto Luening at the Juilliard School in New York, New York from 1971–75, where he earned his BMus and MMus, as well as the Lado Prize in Composition. He was later a student at the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception in New York, New York from 1994–96. Among his honours were three fellowships from the MacDowell Colony in Peterborough, New Hampshire (1983–85), a fellowship from the artist colony Yaddo in Saratoga Springs, New York (1999) and a fellowship from the Virginia Center for the Arts (1999). As a pianist, his specialty was contemporary music. He worked as an accompanist to dance classes for Robert Blanshine, Nanette Cherrise, Merce Cunningham, and Janet Panetta in New York, New York in the 1980s. He was also active in other positions. He served as music director of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior's Atonement and of its concert series Cornerstone Center from 1975–88. Moreover, he served as music director of the Battery Dance Company, the Paul Sanasardo Dance Company and the Peggy Florin Dancers, all in New York, New York, all in the 1980s before his term as a contemplative Benedictine monk at St. Mary's Monastery in Massachusetts from 1988–94. He served as music director of the St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church in Park Slope, Brooklyn from 1996–2021. He taught as an adjunct instructor of literature and materials of music at the Juilliard School in 1975–76.
