He worked first as a blacksmith, and a stone cutter for the buildings of the Seigneurie de Beaupre. He was a blacksmith in Lisieux, Normandy. He arived in Quebec about 1690. In 1694 he worked on the construction of the Ste. Anne de Beaupre Church. January 15, 1700, he acquired all of his father-in-law, Laurent Magneron's concession and he became a trapper and a farmer, also exercising his profession as a blacksmith. He built a new house in 1703 in St. Joachim.
