A servant to Michel Le Neuf de La Vallier who became Seigneur of Beaubassin. He and his family left Beaubassin for Ile Royale on18 May 1714. In July 1881 he was transferred to Artane, a subburb of Dublin to an Irish Christian Brothers who ran a trade school where he learned carpentry and metal working. At the age of 14 he became an apprentice to Patrick Greene in Galway. In 1889 Michael stowed away on the ship Stormy Petre l, which was bound for Dalhousie and Campbellton, NB. Giving up his quest to find his sister Catherine who was in St. Louis, MIssouri. Michael hired on to work at the MacDougal farm in Matapedia. There he met a Mr. Lawler, who recommended him to the Restigoushe Salmon Club. There he worked as a handyman, and later a fishing guide. There he met and married Isabella (Bella) MacDonald who was a cook. Michael then accepted the position of caretaker for the Rogers property at Kedgwick River.
