12175 | Sharon Kay Selman, 76, of Cowen, passed away on December 15, 2023 at United Hospital Center in Bridgeport, WV. After an extended illness. She was born January 18, 1947 in Bergoo, a daughter of the late Ernest L and Esther Wolford Rose. Sharon was a dedicated wife and mother first and Foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as MaMaw, loving her grandchildren and great grandchildren with her whole heart. Sharon loved her family with a fervor that speaks volumes about her beautiful, dedicated, and loving self. Sharon was a skillful homemaker. She enjoyed canning, gardening, puzzles, reading and spending time with her family and her pets. Surviving is her husband, Billy Selman, Sr., children, Billy (Sam) Selman, Jr., of Fredericksburg, VA., and Randall R (Stacylee) Selman of Orange County, VA., grandchildren, Andrew Selman, Kayla Bowers, Travis, Colin, Colton, and Conner Selman; great grandchildren, Aubrey and Willow Selman, Kasen Bowers. Kaine Bowers, Brantley Tolley, Rylee Violette, Ivy Williams, sisters, Margie Howe of Pennsylvania and Teresa (Everett) Bacon of North Carolina. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Gary Wolford and Thomas Rose. Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 23, 2023 at Morris Funeral Home, Cowen with Rev. Keith Williams officiating. Burial will follow at the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Cowen. She is survived by six children, Robert Dionne and his wife, Orilla, of Old Town, Daniel Dionne and his wife, Barbara, of Old Town, Sharon Freeman and her husband, Cleveland, of Pennsylvania, Roger Dionne and his wife, Dotty, of LaGrange, Reginald Dionne and his wife, Renate, of Germany and Rick Dionne and his fiancee, Elicia Landry, of LaGrange; 18 grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and special friends, Paul Guay, Brenda Bell, Ann Delaware, Wayne Jackson and the staff at Eastside Rehabilitation. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond Violette, in 1993; a stepson, Raymond Violette Jr.; and a granddaughter, Corinne (Dionne) Doucette. 12194 | Shirley Violette (Poulin) Salka, 60, of East Lyme, wife of David Salka, died on Thursday, April 20, 2006, at John Dempsey Hospital in Farmington. Mrs. Salka was born in Bristol, on May 30, 1945, and was a daughter of Germaine (Rodrigue) Poulin of Bristol and the late Lucien Poulin. She was formerly of Bristol where she taught junior high at St. Ann School for 22 years and was known as "Mrs. V". She graduated from Bristol Central High School and received her degree attending Eastern and Central Connecticut State Universities. She was a resident of East Lyme for the past 20 years while she continued to teach at Waterford High School and was active with her husband in business at Salka Freight Lines, Boats Inc. of Niantic, and Snow White Laundromat of South Lyme. She was a huge advocate for education and had a passion for travel. In addition to her husband whom she married on Oct. 11, 1985, and her mother, Mrs. Poulin is survived by a son, Steven Violette of Canterbury; a stepson, Jeffrey Salka of Danbury; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Roger Poulin of Madison, and Rick and Kathy Poulin of Austin, Tex.; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Dorothy Poulin of Bristol, and Deb and Thomas Chase of Chicago; two grandchildren, Jeremy S. Violette and Abigail Salka; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins of this area and of Lewiston, Maine, and Quebec. She also had many close friends and touched the lives of so many people through her selfless generosity. Relatives and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 24, 2006, at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 48 Grand St., Niantic. There will also be calling hours between 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 25, at the Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Ann Church, 215 West St., Bristol.
