Violette, 46, Prominent business man of this town who died Sunday after an illness of several months, were in St. Bruno's Church, Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock. The Rev. Joseph Bedard, S. M., officiated at a solemn high mass of requiem assisted by the REV. I. J. Fornier, S. M., deacon, and the Rev. Lionel Beaudoin, S. M., sub-deacon. Bearers were Robert Violette, Robert Martin, Eugene LeBrum, Eugene Stewart, Willie E. Cyr and George Cyr. Interment was in the family lot in the St. Bruno Cemetery. The funeral mass was sung by a male choir composed of Donald Lapointe, Everett Dionne, Rene Lang, Roland Pineau and Emile Soucy of St. Leonard. Mr. Pineau was at the organ. The church was filled with relatives and friends of the deceased, and spiritual bouquets, mass and floral offerings were many. Attending the funeral from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. George Quigley and George Emile Morneault of Fort Kent, Mrs. Ernest Fournier, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Fournier and Mrs. Arthur Daigle of Madawaska. Mrs. Mattie O'Regan of Grand Falls, N. B..; Dr. Lorne Dubay and Joseph S. Cyr of Edmundston; Euclide Bouchard of Caribour; Miss Amanda Violette of Lincoln and Mr. and Mrs. Emile Violette of Presque Isle. Mr. Violette was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ambroise Violette and was a descendant of Francois Violette, Pioneer Acadian settler who in 1790 built a grist mill near the mouth of Violette brook, which was named after him. For many years the little Acadian village was known as "Violette Brook" before assuming the name of Van Buren at the close of the "Aroostook War." The deceased was born in the Ambroise Violette home, a landmark of long standing here and situated on the Violette farm hewn from forest land by the town's first settler. Mr. Violette was educated at St. Mary's college here and for a number of years was employed in the Provincial Bank in St. Leonard, N. B. Later he was an assistant in the Van Buren Trust company's bank and was promoted to manager, serving in that capacity for many years. In later years he was a dealer in building materials. He was a fourth degree member of Van Buren council, Knights of Columbus. Besides being one of the town's leading athletes, Mr. Violette promoted much activity in baseball and basketball circles of northern Maine. He also promoted atheletic programs for the growing youngsters of the community. In his later years, Mr. Violette continued to participate in athletic activities and was a leading member of the Van Buren A. A. baseball team. Surviving are his wife, Emma Paradis Violette; two step-daughters, Mrs. Henry Herbert (Isabelle) and Mrs. Angelo Cyr (Carmen), both of this town; two sisters, Mrs. John S. Cyr (Anna) of Van Buren and sister, St. Guillaume (Laura) of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd, and a brother, Joseph Violette of Waterville. | Violette, Lawrence Yves (P2668)
