Darling, 91
SOUTH PORTLAND -- Anita M. Darling, 91, died on Oct. 8, 2014. The youngest of five children, Anita was born on May 5, 1923, to Leonard and Rose Violette of Van Buren, where she graduated Salutatorian of her high school class.
In 1947, she married Louis A. Darling 'Taffy,' a lobster fisherman from Cape Elizabeth, who predeceased her in 1987.
To meet the challenge of a fishing life, Anita became quite proficient in creating many kinds of seafood dishes, her specialty being baked stuffed lobster. She and her husband's love of the sea brought them many happy times renting a camp on Cousins Island in Yarmouth, where they shared the experience with their son and her niece and nephews.
Anita worked at Day's Jewelry Store for many years, then went to work for B&M Bean Co., from which she retired, but her passion was family. She had a special bond with her grandchildren, who affectionately nicknamed her 'Candy Grammy,' but her kindness and love extended far beyond her immediate family.
Anita had a zest for life and never stopped moving, whether it be traveling to visit friends and family in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Alabama, or line dancing with her Women's Auxiliary cronies at the VFW Post 832 in South Portland.
She is survived by her son Gary and wife Kimberly; grandson Christopher A. Darling, wife Heidi and their children, Benjamin, Samuel and Madeline; and granddaughter Amy R. Freese, husband Richard and their children, Emily and Abigail.
Visiting hours will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 12, at the Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Rd., South Portland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 13, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in South Portland. Interment will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 14, at Forest City Cemetery in South Portland. For online condolences please visit www.hobbsfuneralhome.com.

Little Rock, Ark.; many nieces and nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews; great-grandniece and cousins. Jim also is survived by most of Evelyn's siblings, Lewis and Annette Copeland, Patti and Alan Copeland, Thomas and Diane Copeland, Sharon and Wally Brigalli and Brenda and Jon Beaton, who continued to keep tabs on Jim.

He was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn on April 28, 2015; his parents; and brothers and their spouses, Paul and Anita Violette and Daniel and Sharon Violette; as well as his in-laws, George and Betty Copeland.

A special thank you to Northern Light Inland Hospital, Acute Care staff in Waterville and our Northern Light Home Care and Hospice team. Jim, Randy and Sue felt supported beyond measure. Jim had been in palliative care since November and the care and respect given to he and the family was hugely impactful. Also sincere gratitude to Jim's longtime home caregiver, Nikki Boisvert, who became a member of the family while assisting Sue and Randy with Jim's care.
