Passed away at St. Joseph's Convent in Biddeford, Maine

BIDDEFORD – Sister Dorothy Violette, formerly known as Sister St. Viola, died at St. Joseph Convent on Sunday, March 1, 2020 at the age of 87. Sister Dorothy was born in Van Buren, Maine on Oct. 30, 1932 to Leo E. Violette and Ann Cyr Violette. Sister was the fourth child in a family of eight children.

She received her elementary schooling at Sacred Heart School and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Van Buren.

On Sept. 4, 1950, Sister Dorothy entered the Congregation of the Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, also known as the Good Shepherd Sisters of Quebec, in Bay View, Saco. After her initial training in religious life, she spent a year at the Mother House in Quebec to continue her studies and become familiar with the history of the Congregation. She earned her B.A. in Education from St. Joseph College, North Windham.

Sister Dorothy taught in the primary schools of Biddeford and Northern Maine, including North Caribou, Hamlin, Caswell and Van Buren. She taught and befriended hundreds of little children in the St. John Valley and was greatly loved and respected by all. She retired from a long career in education in the year 2000. Sister was then assigned to Bay View Villa where she worked for four years. Her next assignment was to St. Joseph Convent in 2004 where she served as receptionist and driver for Sisters to appointments.

Sister Dorothy is survived by several nieces and nephews.

P. Eugene Violette, 73, died Sept. 16, 2010, at a St. Louis hospital. He was born July 1, 1937, in Van Buren, son of Vital E. and Estelle (Bosse) Violette.
He was a retired English professor at Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville.
He is survived by two sons, Philippe E. Violette and his wife, Lana, of the Dominican Republic and Nguyen X. Violette and his wife, Leanne, of St. Louis; three grandchildren, Whitney, Nicole and Tyson Violette; and two brothers, Robert Violette and his wife, Gloria, of Presque Isle and Claude Violette and his wife, Rita, of New Britain, Conn.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church. Committal service and interment will be at the parish cemetery. (Bangor Daily News 10/26/2010)

SACO - Leona Violette, 90, a longtime Saco resident, formerly of 62 Pleasant Street, died this morning at the Family Living Center. The daughter of Onesime and Leonie Cyr Violette, she was born August 9, 1903 in Old Town and attended school there. She had been a resident of Saco for 48 years after moving from Old Town. An active member of Notre Dame de Lourdes Church in Saco, Ms. Violette spent considerable time crocheting and handcrafting items that she donated for fund raisers at Notre Dame de Lourdes School. For more than 25 year she was employed by the Pepperell Manufacturing Company in Biddeford. She is survived by several cousins.

At the Ste-Élizabeth Home in Baker-Brook, on October 7, 2018, at the age of 87 years and 6 months, Mr. Camille Violette left us, he was the husband of Mrs. Charlotte Grondin and lived in Edmundston.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Michel (Danielle Houle) of Lachine, QC, Thérèse (James Miles) of Orléans, ON, Caroline Violette-Bolduc (Denis) of St-Jacques, Brigitte Violette of Québec, QC , François of Montreal QC, Benoît of Ottawa, ON, Charles of Edmundston and Julie Violette (Laurent Marineau) of Gatineau, QC, his grandchildren, Gabriel, Dominique, Louis, Stéphanie, Valérie, Caroline, Mathieu and Elise, one sister, Laura Laforest (late Clairmont) of Grand Falls. He now rests with his parents, Camille Violette and Alice Cyr, his brothers and sisters, Alvine, Gilberte, Léo-Candide, Isabelle and Jeannine.

The funeral of Mr. Camille Violette will take place at 4 p.m., Friday, October 12, 2018 at Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Douleurs Church, Edmundston, with interment in the cemetery of St-Léonard, NB.

Hattie E. Gahagan of Manchester, CT passed away September 17, 2019 at the age of 99 years. Born to Able and Francis Violette she grew up in Caribou, Maine. She married Delmar Gahagan and helped run the family farm for many years. The family moved to Manchester, CT in 1956. She retired from Pratt & Whitey Aircraft in East Hartford after more than 30 years employment and as an AFL-CIO union steward. She enjoyed camping, entertaining and card playing, crafts, music and dancing. She also loved traveling and seeing new places, old friends and family. She was predeceased by her husband Delmar A. Gahagan, her daughter Linda Gould of Ruther Glen, VA, her parents, Able and Francis Violette of Caribou, ME; her siblings Flora Philbrick of Caribou, ME, brothers Coleman Violette of East Hartford, CT, Woodrow Violette of Millinocket, Maine and Alphonse (Buster) Violette of Sandusky, Ohio. She is survived by her daughters Frances Gahagan of Manchester, CT and Patricia Codding and her spouse Lewis (Toby) Codding of Tisbury, MA; grandchildren David Gahagan and his wife Erin of Lindenhurst, IL and Sarah Codding of Tisbury, MA; as well as great grandchildren Collin and Emma Gahagan and Amber Ventura.

AUGUSTA – Aurella “Mollie” Violette of Augusta, Maine died peacefully on December 22, 2014 at Maine General Rehab & Nursing Home at Glenridge in Augusta after a long illness. She was 87. Mollie was born on November 27, 1927 in Van Buren, Maine, the daughter of Willie Bruno Violette and Sophie Thibodeau Violette.

She was a graduate of Cony High School, class of 1946. Mollie was very good at free-hand drawing and was chosen to do the 1946 Cony class yearbook cover. She could also do people’s profiles. After high school, Mollie was employed by the State of Maine in the Highway Department, and also the Motor Vehicle and Vital Statistics Departments. She also attended nursing school in Michigan.

Mollie was predeceased by her parents, 3 brothers, Matthew, Cleo and Duward Violette, 4 sisters, Agnella Larson, Muriel Brown, Aurora Violette and Roween Foote, 2 nephews, Robert Larson, Jr. and Laurence Foote, and 2 nieces, Melody Hackett and Karen Larson. She is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Burial took place on Friday, May 15th at St. Joseph’s Cemetary in Gardiner, ME. Mollie’s family would like to thank Staples Funeral Home and the staff at Glenridge Nursing Home for their professional and compassionate service during this difficult time.
