In 1621 he cosigned with Champlain and others a petition to king Louis XIII presented by the Duke de Mortmorency. 1624 he was named Under Commissioner of Trade and mastered the languages of the Montagnaise, Algonquins and Hurons and became interpreter for the commander de Caen. When Capt. Kirke beset Quebec in 1629, it was Olivier who delivered the keys to him. At the end of 1633 he became Commissioner General of the 100 Associates. 872 | At Foyer Notre-Dame Nursing Home, Saint-Leonard, May 19, 2014, Mrs. Lilianne Soucy of Saint-Leonard passed away at the age of 94 years. She was the wife of the late Onezime Soucy. Born at Sainte-Anne-de-Madawaska in 1919, she was a daughter of the late Frederick and Clara (Desjardins) Gauvin. She is survived by her children, Conrad of Connecticut, Gaetanne Levesque (Raymond) of Connecticut, Leo (Friend Susan) of Florida, Bertin (Gisele) of Baie Comeau, Quebec, Odeo of Florida, Linda Aines of Florida and Daniel of California, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, two sisters, Gertrude Thibault of Enfield, Connecticut and Rita Gregory of Florida, one brother, Eugene Gauvin of Florida, several nieces and nephews. Resting at O'Regan's Chapel, 83 St-Antoine Street, Saint-Leonard with visiting hours Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Her funeral service will be held Saturday, May 24th at 11 a.m. from the Saint-Leonard Roman Catholic Church, with interment in the adjoining cemetery. 873 | At the Edmundston Regional Hospital, on Friday June 7, 2024, at the age of 75, passed away James Violette, husband of Paulette Malenfant, residing in Saint-Léonard. Born in Van Buren, Maine in 1948, he was the son of the late Roméo Violette and the late Victoire Theriault. James was a civil servant in the provincial government for the Treasury Board, Social Services and director of libraries for the Chaleur Region. He was also involved as president of the Saint-Léonard credit union and chamber of commerce. He “coached” his sons in hockey when they were starting out. Favorite pastimes included cooking, cross-country skiing in the winter, and gardening in the summer. After his stroke, he took up oil painting and lately he has been doing diamond dot and crossword puzzles. He loved spending time with his family, traveling and listening to music. He leaves to mourn his wife Paulette, three sons, Bernard (Vickie Martin) and Jeremy (Daisy Lapointe) of Saint-Léonard and Alexandre (Chani Grandmaison) of Saint-Basile, six grandchildren, Emma, Ellie, Benny, Charlie Rose, Malix and Maély, two brothers, Roger (late Edwina) from Perth-Andover and Jean-Marc (Mariette) from Saint-Léonard, two sisters, Marcella Laforge (Fred) from Morrisburg, Ontario and her twin Joan Jackson (David) of Auburn, California, as well as nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Simone Dubay (late Cecil) and a brother, Pierre ''Pit''. The family will welcome relatives and friends to Salon Guy O'Regan, 83, rue St-Antoine in Saint-Léonard. Visiting hours will be Sunday June 16 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Monday June 17 from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. His funeral will take place on Monday, June 17 at 4 p.m. in the Saint-Léonard church with burial in the parish cemetery. 874 | At the Edmundston Regional Hospital, on Tuesday, July 21, 2020, at the age of 83, died Irene Michaud, wife of the late Lorenzo Violette, resident in Sainte-Anne-de-Madawaska and formerly of Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes. Born in Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes in 1937, she was the daughter of the late Léonide Michaud and the late Antoinette Bélanger. Ms. Violette was an employee of McCain Foods Limited for 20 years. She was also a life member of the Christian Women's Movement of Our Lady of Lourdes and a member of the St. Joseph Society. She was also the first secretary of the Parish Pastoral Council of Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes, which began in the 1960s. She is survived by four children, Diane Cormier (Maurice), Laurence Violette (Marius Ruest), Camille Violette (Pierrette Martin) and Johanne Ruest (Léo), her son-in-law, Clarence Thibodeau (late Viviane), her daughter-in-law, Jacqueline (late Irenée), 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren in addition to one on the way, two brothers and a sister, Roger Michaud (Thérèse) of Terrebonne, Quebec, Jean-Claude Michaud (Céline) of Montreal and Doreen Couturier (Ghislain) of Laval, Quebec, half-sisters, Sister Monique Michaud of Ottawa and Sister Brigitte Michaud of Montreal, as well as nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two children, Viviane Thibodeau and Irenée Violette, her sisters and brothers, Alyre Michaud, Bibiane Michaud, Rolande Michaud (late Léonide), Camille Michaud (Candide), Réal Michaud (Adrienne), Roland Michaud (late Vera) and Diana (late Philippe Maltais). The funeral of Mrs. Irene Violette will take place in the Church of Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes in the presence of her family and close friends. 875 | At the Grand Falls General Hospital, June 8, 2012, Mr. Onezime Soucy of Foyer Notre-Dame Nursing Home of Saint-Leonard, passed away at the age of 96 years. He was the husband of the former Lilianne Gauvin. Born at Saint-Leonard in 1915, he was the last surviving child of the late Edmond and Clara (Desjardins) Soucy. He is survived by his wife who is a resident of Foyer Notre-Dame Nursing Home of Saint-Leonard, seven children, Conrad of Connecticut, Gaetanne Levesque (Raymond) of Connecticut, Leo (Friend Susan) of Florida, Bertin (Gisele) of Baie Comeau, Quebec, Odeo of Florida, Linda Aines of Florida and Daniel of California, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. His funeral service was held Friday, June 15th at 4 p.m. from the Saint-Leonard Roman Catholic Church, with Father Roger Dionne officiating, assisted by Father Roland Poitras and Father Bertrand Ouellet. Liette was a nurse and passionate about the history surrounding their training in NB. 882 | Aurele O. Doucette, 96, passed away peacefully at a nursing home on August 24, 2018. Aurele was born February 14, 1922, and was one of the last living World War II veterans in his hometown. Aurele was born and brought up in Van Buren, by Alfred and Lucie (Parent) Doucette. In 1939, he moved to southern Maine to work in the Civilian Conservation Corps and then as a shipfitter with New England Shipbuilding Corps, So. Portland. In 1943, Aurele was drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II. He joined troops fighting in France, as an infantryman just two weeks after D-Day. As a heavy machine gunner with the Big Red One, he did his part during the Battle of the Bulge to hold the northern flank. Throughout Central Europe, Aurele also worked as a light truck driver hauling personnel, equipment, and supplies to the front lines. He spent 23 months in the European Theater of Operations. When Aurele returned to Van Buren, he married Muriel Corriveau in 1947. He then worked as a carpenter and supervisor for the Civil Service at Loring Air Force Base for 32 years, until his retirement in 1983. Aurele was fond of carpentry and fishing. He, his father, and his three sons built the very first camp on the west side of Van Buren Cove, Long Lake, which they enjoyed for many years. He was an active member of the American Legion, Post #49 for 73 years and a 50 year 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, #1635. Aurele will be greatly missed by his family and sincerely appreciated by all for his exemplary service to our country. Aurele is survived by his five children, Rick and his wife, Helen, Mona Dumais and her husband, Skip, Greg and his, wife Vie, Deb Donofrio and her husband, Dean, and Russ and his wife, Katie. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren, Nicki, Ryan, Josh, Shelli, Liza, Joey, and Donovan; and eleven great-grandchildren, Caleb, Jacob, Jonah, Giselle, Brynn, Syla, Velina, Addysyn, Calyn, Kelton, and Kevin. Aurele was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Muriel (Corriveau) Doucette. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his three brothers, George, Lionel, and Lawrence; and his two sisters, Cecile Pelletier and Rita Levasseur. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on September 22, 2018, at St. Bruno-St. Remi Church, Main St., Van Buren. Visitation will be Saturday morning 10-10:45 a.m. at the church. 883 | Aurore (Duval) Plourde, 83, of Bristol, Conn., died Jan. 10, 2004, at Bristol Hospital. She was the wife of the late Albert Plourde, who died in 1974. Aurore was born Dec. 31, 1921, in St. Anthony, Canada, the daughter of Louis T. and Dorile (Levasseur) Duval. She was a retired die cutter for A.M.F. Cuno after 26 years of service, and a member of St. Edward Parish. Aurore is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Donald H. and Vickie Plourde of Michigan; four grandchildren, Stella, Jenielle, Jeremy and Joan; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Jean-Paul and Helen Duval of Fort Kent, Rosaire Duval of Bristol, Conn., Alphonse and Malenie Duval of St. Francois, New Brunswick, Canada; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call at the Daigle & Nadeau Funeral Home in Fort Kent, 9:30 a.m. Saturday until the time of service.
