9674 | First record found for Charles Lund is of his enlistment in the Canadian Over-Seas Expeditionary Force on 12 Feb. 1918 at Toronto Ontario. Yet his Certificate of Medical Examination was signed on the same date in Chicago, Illinois. That document states that Charles was born at Wirmland, Sweden on 14 Sept. 1896. His Death Certificate from Boulder City, Nevada shows his birth on 8 Sept 1892 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. It states that Charles died of a Coronary Occulion on 9 Feb. 1952. The Death Certificate lists his occupation as gardener, and that he was never married. His Obituary tells yet a different story, stating that Charles (Shorty) was born on 18 or 8 Sept. 1892 at Chicago, Illinois. It states that Charles was a registered pharmacist and followed that profession for some time. He was a song writer, composer and artist. He enlisted in the Canadian Army on 30 Nov 1914, and was on continuous service overseas in World War 1, first in the Canadian Army and later with the United States Army after America's entry into the war in 1917. The obituary states he was wounded 3 times and had Purple Heart decorations, the British War Medal, the Mons Star, and 3 Blue Chevrons from the British. He also served a term with the French Foreign Legion in Morocco. On his return to the States, he engaged in the pharmacuetical business, was also a cosmetic manufacturer, and employed at the Walt Disney movie studios. He was also a member of the Free & Accepted Masonic Order. 1940 US Federal Census states he was a guard at the Mission Hotel in Los Angeles. Yet, with all these acomplisments, no United States Service Record can be found. I will leave the conclusion up to the reader. | Lund, Charles A. (P82952)
