  HOULTON Helen Mary (Melville) Smith 86 died March 24 2001 at a local hospital. She was born July 16 1914 at Houlton the daughter of Charles Wellington and Annie (Sullivan) Melville. Helen attended and was very active at the Houlton Congregational Church. She was a graduate of Houlton High School Aroostook State Normal School and the University of Maine at Presque Isle. She taught in Houlton schools for more than 35 years and was a member of the Maine Retired Teachers Association National Retired Teachers Association the Extension Service Houlton Women's Club and she was a longtime volunteer at the Cary Library. She is survived by two sons James of Florida, Alan and his wife Gretchen of Houlton, four grandchildren Neal, Dan, Laurel, and Alana. She was predeceased by her husband James Smith. Friends may call at the Congregational Church 2 pm until time of service at 3 Tuesday with the Rev Dale Holden officiating.
