- At the Edmundston Regional Hospital, on Friday June 7, 2024, at the age of 75, passed away James Violette, husband of Paulette Malenfant, residing in Saint-Léonard. Born in Van Buren, Maine in 1948, he was the son of the late Roméo Violette and the late Victoire Theriault.
James was a civil servant in the provincial government for the Treasury Board, Social Services and director of libraries for the Chaleur Region. He was also involved as president of the Saint-Léonard credit union and chamber of commerce. He “coached” his sons in hockey when they were starting out. Favorite pastimes included cooking, cross-country skiing in the winter, and gardening in the summer. After his stroke, he took up oil painting and lately he has been doing diamond dot and crossword puzzles. He loved spending time with his family, traveling and listening to music.
He leaves to mourn his wife Paulette, three sons, Bernard (Vickie Martin) and Jeremy (Daisy Lapointe) of Saint-Léonard and Alexandre (Chani Grandmaison) of Saint-Basile, six grandchildren, Emma, Ellie, Benny, Charlie Rose, Malix and Maély, two brothers, Roger (late Edwina) from Perth-Andover and Jean-Marc (Mariette) from Saint-Léonard, two sisters, Marcella Laforge (Fred) from Morrisburg, Ontario and her twin Joan Jackson (David) of Auburn, California, as well as nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Simone Dubay (late Cecil) and a brother, Pierre ''Pit''.
The family will welcome relatives and friends to Salon Guy O'Regan, 83, rue St-Antoine in Saint-Léonard. Visiting hours will be Sunday June 16 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Monday June 17 from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
His funeral will take place on Monday, June 17 at 4 p.m. in the Saint-Léonard church with burial in the parish cemetery.
