Gabriel is the ancestor of most of the Dufour of Charlevoix, Saguenay-lac St. Jean, He was from the city of Lisieux, Normandy, France.
He worked first as a blacksmith, and a stone cutter for the buildings of the Seigneurie de Beaupre. He was a blacksmith in Lisieux, Normandy.
He arived in Quebec about 1690. In 1694 he worked on the construction of the Ste. Anne de Beaupre Church.
January 15, 1700, he acquired all of his father-in-law, Laurent Magneron's concession and he became a trapper and a farmer, also exercising his profession as a blacksmith. He built a new house in 1703 in St. Joachim. Having a large family and thinking of the future establishment of his large family, in 1717 he purchased land to the Pettite Riviere St. Francois and the Ile-aux-Coudres.
