    • Geraldine Pelletier Chasse, 92, left us peacefully on September 24, 2105 with loving family by her side. She was born February 17, 1923 in St. Francis, Maine, daughter of the late Laurent and Marie (Sirois) Pelletier. Gerry attended schools in St. Francis and Westbrook Maine. She was graduated from the Madawaska Training School as a young woman, and then graduated from University of Maine at Fort Kent in her middle years. She was a born teacher and taught in Valley schools, starting out in a one room schoolhouse in St. Francis. She instilled in her children a love of learning that endlessly enriches their lives. She was a super volunteer contributing much to her community from being a 4-H leader and Cub Scout Den Mother to serving on the Acadian Cultural Preservation Commission. She was one of the first recipients of the Acadian Achievement Award in 1995 and was named Maine Outstanding Homemaker in 1980. She was a founding member of the Madawaska Historical Society and was instrumental in establishing the Acadian Festival. Her commitment to strong families led her to organization of many of the annual family reunions. She was dedicated to the Madawaska Library, serving on the board and as a volunteer librarian. She served on numerous boards and committees over the years. She was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Ernie Chasse, Jr. Together they owned and operated St. John Valley Potato Farms and Chasse Gravel Service.
