- Rachel R. Violette, 85, of Fayetteville, passed away peacefully in her home with her family by her side, on Monday, March 20, 2023.
Rachel was a retired civil service worker at Fort Bragg, but her biggest career was raising her five children. Their home was always a place of love and fellowship. As Rachel would say, “Friends, family, and food! A fantabulous trio!” Mrs. Violette was a supportive military wife while demonstrating her commitment to her children through several volunteer opportunities. Rachel served as a cub scout den mother and girl scout mom. She volunteered endlessly with The CARE Clinic, along with Haymount UMC and the Stanton House.
Upon retirement from the civil service, she established her own business, Rachel the Traveling Chef, and continued sharing her love of cooking with The CARE Clinic and her family and friends. Her Christmas Reveillon party was always a favorite among friends and family with delicious chicken stew and bouillabaisse. Her pleasures included bingo, Scrabble, and card games. She was always willing to challenge anyone to watch Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, and other skillful game shows like, Let’s Make a Deal or The Price is Right! Two of Rachel’s favorite activities were going to the beach and eating seafood, not just any seafood, but especially lobster and crabs! She could show you parts of both that you had never experienced before. She also loved cruising with her daughters and casino gambling.
Rachel is preceded in death by her husband, Leo J. Violette Sr. She is survived by three sons, Leo J. Violette Jr. of Fayetteville, NC, Cal Violette (Allison) of Hendersonville, NC, and John Violette (Nikki) of Florence, S.C.; two daughters, Terry Jones of Raleigh and Gale Violette of Angier; seven grandchildren, Jamie, Jane, Rebecca, Christina, Cameron, Landon and Paiton; and six great grandchildren, William, Abigail, Madison, Noah, Kayla, and Parker.
The family will receive friends in the Commons Room of Haymount United Methodist Church, 1700 Ft. Bragg Rd., Fayetteville, NC, at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 28, 2023. A memorial service will follow in the sanctuary at 12:00 noon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The CARE Clinic, P.O. Box 53438, Fayetteville, NC 28305; or to a preferred charity.
Services are entrusted to Sullivan’s Highland Funeral Service & Crematory.
