      Wilfred L. Doucette, 78, of Bristol, died suddenly on Friday, November 22, 2013 at Bristol Hospital. Wilfred was born in Madawaska, ME on December 11, 1934 and was one of eight children of the late Vital and Jeannette (Chasse) Doucette. He was a longtime Bristol resident and was employed for many years at New Departure before retiring. He served in the United States Navy where he was a SEAL. Wilfred loved life, was a joker and a crooner but mostly was always keeping busy. He was an active member and officer in several veteran organizations including, the Franco-American War Veterans, American Legion Post 2, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 5, and the Zbikowski Post 2 Polish Legion of American Veterans. He was also active and held office as a member of The Franco American Club of Bristol, Knights of Columbus Palos Council 35, M.B. Roddan Assembly 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Bristol Elk’s Lodge #1010 and the Polish American Club. He was a parishioner of St. Ann Church, Bristol. Wilfred was an avid fan of baseball, going out for breakfast, and trying to charm ladies. After his grandchildren came home from the Democratic Republic of Congo, they became the lights of his life forming a mutual admiration society together. Wilfred is survived by his daughter and son in law, Chantal and Jeremy Rich of Scranton, PA, and his two grandchildren, Lucien and Beatrice; two brothers, Claude Doucette and Frances “Reggie” Doucette of Bristol; three sisters, Constance Daigle, Jeannine Albert, and Joan Lubelczyk, all of Bristol; and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his special friend, Barbara Banville. He was predeceased by two sisters, Mildred Lauzon and Geraldine Lyman. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday (December 7, 2013) 10 AM at St. Ann Church, 215 West St., Bristol. Burial, with military honors, will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol. Relatives and friends may call at Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol, on Friday between 4 and 8 PM.
