HAMPDEN – Nelson Marcel Violette Sr., 87, beloved husband of the late Vergie M. Violette, passed away Feb. 24, 2007, at his home. He was born June 16, 1919, in Van Buren, the son of Alfred O. and Leda (Saucier) Violette. Nelson was a 1938 graduate of John Bapst High School. He and Vergie were married for 64 years and lived in Hampden, where together they raised their six children. He worked for the Maine Central Railroad for 36 years. Nelson enjoyed traveling and golfing. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband and father. Nelson is survived by three sons, Nelson M. Violette Jr. of Hermon, David A. Violette and his wife, Cheryl, of Brewer and Michael S. Violette of Hampden; three daughters, Virginia M. Grant and her husband, Norman, of Veazie, Mary L. Ouellette and her husband, Gerard, of Bristol, Conn., and Nancy A. Delaney and her fiance, James Story Sr., of Orono; 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Herman of California and Alfred of Green Lake; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Vergie in 2006; by a sister, Geraldine; three brothers, Gerald, Francis and Robert, who died in the Korean War; and twin grandsons, Jonathan and Brian. Nelson’s family thanks all of the caregivers from Hospice of St. Joseph for the wonderful care he was given during his illness. Visiting hours will be held 1 p.m. until time of service 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, with the Rev. Robert Vaillancourt, pastor of St. Matthew Catholic Church of Hampden, officiating. Interment in the springtime will be beside his wife, Vergie, at Locust Grove Cemetery, Hampden.
