Lorraine Violette McAleer, 91, formerly of Fairfield, ME and Gorham, ME, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at her residence at The Casco Inn. Throughout, Lorraine was comforted by her two daughters and their families along with the staffs of Casco Inn and Androscoggin Home Hospice Care.
Lorraine was born May 15, 1926, in Waterville, ME, the second of six children to Louis and Eva (Brillant) Violette. She graduated from Fisher College in Boston, MA with a degree in Accounting. For many years following, she was the primary bookkeeper and an eventual co-owner of L.N. Violette Company in Fairfield, ME. She was also a longtime communicant and generous benefactor to the former Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Fairfield, ME.
Among our fondest memories were many summer visits to Lorraine and Walter at their family camp on China Lake along with several late-winter getaways to their winter home in North Ft. Myers, FL. Throughout her life, Lorraine combined a quiet determination with a generous spirit. She was always willing to help those most in need.
Besides her parents, Lorraine was predeceased by her beloved husband Walter F. McAleer; by her granddaughter, Katherine (Rancore) Coll; and by her brother, James P. Violette.
She is survived by her two daughters, Violet Rancore and husband Jim of Canaan, NH and Mary Robinson and husband Rob of Gorham, ME. Our ‘Memere’ is also fondly remembered by her grandchildren, Amy Lanois of Mechanic Falls, ME and Erica Rancore of Bowie MD; by Patrick and Margaret Robinson of Gorham, ME; and by her great-grandchildren, Zachary Coll and Nathaniel Atkinson.
Visiting hours will be on Friday April 27 from 5 to 7 PM at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main St. in Fairfield, ME. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday April 28 at 11 AM at Notre Dame Church, 116 Silver St. in Waterville, ME with a reception to immediately follow at the church.
