    • VAN BUREN - Lloyd D. Violette, 70, died Thursday, August 28, 2014, from complications after an abdominal aortic aneurysm repair. He was born August 25, 1944 in Portland, a son of the late Doris (Violette) Carroll. He was raised in Van Buren by his grandparents, the late Calixte & Ernistine (Cote) Violette.
      Lloyd enlisted with the US Army in 1962, serving proudly as a paratrooper and machine gunner with the 82nd Airborne Division in the Dominican Republic. Following his honorable discharge in 1965, he returned to Van Buren. He worked as a meat cutter with Loring Air Force for over 27 years, and eventually became the manager of the commissary meat department. He was a parishioner of St. Bruno-St. Remi Church. He was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus and lifetime member and former commander of the American Legion, Post #49.
      He is survived by: his loving wife of 37 years, Joan (Grivois) Violette of Van Buren; two children: Barry Violette and Carol Dube and her husband, Keith, all of Van Buren; two sisters: Norma Gonzalez and her husband, "Manny" of Buda, TX and Rachel Dubay of New Canaan, CT; one half-sister, Sheila Stuart and her husband, Roger of New Milford, CT; a special sister-in-law, Rachel Dubay Violette of Fayetteville, NC; and a special "grand-puppy", Lily. Besides his mother and grandparents, Lloyd is predeceased by: six brothers, Douglas "Rodney", Leo James, Clarence, Claude, Roland, and Paul Violette; five sisters, Catherine "Katrina" Violette, Alice Bonenfant, Blanche Miller, Antoinette "Toni" Doucette, and Irene Charette; and two half-brothers, Michael and Terry Carroll.
      A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 6, 2014, at St. Bruno-St. Remi Church, Main Street, Van Buren. Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family Friday from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday morning, 9-10:30 a.m. at Lajoie Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren, ME. Burial with military honors will be in the parish cemetery.
