Abel W. Lajoie, 90, died June 10, 1995, at a Van Buren nursing home. He was born at Cyr Plantation, Feb 26, 1905, the son of William J. and Claudia (Violette) Lajoie. He was employed as a potato farmer in Cyr Plantation until 1940 and then moved to southern Maine where he worked at the Portland Shipyard prior to and during World War II. He then worked as a carpenter for a few years before returning to northern Maine. He relocated to the Portsmouth NH area in 1954 where he lived and worked until his retirement in 1973 as a custodian and carpenter for the City of Portsmouth. He and his wife returned to Van Buren in 1985 where they resided at the Borderview Manor nursing home. He is survived by his wife Annie (Thibodeau) Lajoie of Van Buren; four sons, John A. Lajoie and Garner A. Lajoie both of Van Buren, Bernard W. Lajoie and Conrad D. Lajoie both of Portsmouth, N.H.; one daughter Mrs Bernard (Annieleen) Laughlin of Troy, N.Y.; two sisters Cecile Ouellette of Van Buren and Mrs Albert (Germaine) Tardif of Lewiston; 19 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son Kenneth Lajoie in 1935; six brothers, Willie Lajoie, Felix Lajoie, Emile Lajoie, Gilbert Lajoie, Come Lajoie and Wilfred Lajoie; and by three sisters, Azilda Cormier, Anna Martin and Laura Dube. Relatives and friends may call at the Ouellette-Thibault Funeral Home 12 High St Van Buren 2-4 and 7-9 pm Monday and from 9:30 am until time of services on Tuesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am Tuesday at the St Bruno-St Remi Catholic Church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery Portsmouth NH.
