    • AUGUSTA -- Lorraine M. Beaulieu, age 78, of Newland Avenue passed away on Saturday, Aug. 19, 2006, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care at Gray Birch in Augusta.

Lorraine was born in Augusta on Dec. 2, 1927, the daughter of Desire M. and Nellie (Violette) Grondin.

She attended Augusta schools and was a communicant of St. Andrews Catholic Church.

Lorraine worked at Hallowell Shoe Co. for many years before attending Central Beauty School. After Central Beauty School, she worked for Vogue Beauty Salon, which was then located on Water Street in Augusta. She worked at Vogue for about a year or so and then opened up her own beauty salon, Lorraine's Beauty Shoppe, in her home on Newland Avenue. She operated her business for more than 30 years.

Lorraine attended many beauty shows through the years and won many contests. She was admired by many of her peers that were in the business. Lorraine was a very loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. She loved being surrounded by her family, especially during holiday get-togethers.

Her family gatherings always were like a party atmosphere, lots of laughter and joking. She loved to go dancing. She was funny and just fun to be around. She loved to go camping and sitting around the campfire, telling family stories.

Lorraine and Willy liked talking on the CB. She was "Sweet Lorraine" and more often than not, that is how she was referred to by anyone meeting up with her. Lorraine spent a lot of time with her children growing up. They would play cards on weekends and stay up at all hours of the night playing double solitaire. Lorraine loved to knit and crochet. She made lots of things from sweaters to Christmas ornaments. She made loads of mittens for family and to just give away to whoever needed them.

Lorraine also had a hobby of making cakes for birthdays or for any occasion. Everyone loved her cakes and her special frosting. Lorraine is going to be missed by everyone.

She was predeceased by her husband, Wilfred J. "Willy" Beaulieu, and a brother, Robert Grondin.

Survivors include two daughters, Jeanne Turgeon and her husband, Gerry, of Sidney and Ida Turgeon and her husband, Don, of Winthrop; a son, Richard Beaulieu and his wife, Norma, of Pittston; four grandchildren, Scott Turgeon, Rene Turgeon and her fiancé, Mark Munsey; Trevor Beaulieu and Desire Beaulieu; one great-grandson, Hayden; one brother, Joseph D. Grondin and his wife, Theresa, of West Gardiner; and two sisters, Dorothy G. Wall of Augusta and Laurette G. Knox and her husband, Carl, of Augusta.
