- PATTEN, SOUTHWEST HARBOR AND BREWER - Rufus Leroy Campbell, 76, passed away Monday morning, June 1, 2015, at the Brewer Center for Health & Rehabilitation after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born September 17, 1938, in Patten, the son of Gilbert and Mabel (Shorette) Campbell.
He served in the U.S. Air Force and retired after 20 years as a Technical Sergeant and Food Service Supervisor. He then worked for SERVPRO® as a cleaning and restoration professional, and Shaw's® Supermarket as a baker. His passions in life were cooking, especially at large family events, woodworking - building furniture, bird houses and more, and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by three brothers, Bruce and Donis of Patten and Danny of Florida; four stepchildren, Lisa Bono of Florida and Jon Bono, Jennifer Cooper and Jeremy Bono, all of New Hampshire; and five beloved stepgrandchildren, Ryan Bono of Florida, and Quinlan Gill, Mason Cooper, Libby and Will Bono, all of New Hampshire. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Gary; and his beloved wife, Geraldine Marie Campbell.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta, Maine. Donations in his memory may be made to Maine Veterans' Homes, 44 Hogan Road, Bangor, ME 04401.
