      1926-2016
WATERVILLE - Paul Andrew Audet Sr., 89, died Sunday, Feb. 14, 2016 at Mount Saint Joseph in Waterville in the loving care of his family. Paul was born on April 20, 1926 to Francis and Mary Alice Audet and was educated in Waterville. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy as soon as he was able and was a gunner on two Liberty Ships, the Thomas Fitzsimons and the William G. Fargo, protecting the crew and supplies needed for the war effort in Europe.
After the war, Paul settled back in Fairfield and met the love of his life, Lucille Violette. They were married on Sept. 6, 1948 in Fairfield and made their home on Military Ave. for over 60 years. Paul was employed for many years by the L.N. Violette Company and then spent the last 25 years of his working career at Keyes Fibre Company, working as a millwright.
Paul's wartime experiences were the beginning of his lifelong interest in traveling and enjoying the sights and sounds of other places in this world. But while he enjoyed air travel, cruises with his wife, and their motorhome for a several years, some of the best times were summers at China Lake and his activities at home. Paul was a lifelong learner and had many interests and talents. He was accomplished in music and was so proud to use his vocal talents in the churches he faithfully attended his entire life. He was a communicant of the former Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Fairfield and Sacred Heart Church, now Corpus Christi Parish, in Waterville. He was also a member of the Treble Clef Choral Society and enjoyed those performances with other musicians in the Waterville area. He was a talented woodworker and used his retirement to design and build clocks and other treasured family pieces. Paul was never idle even in retirement. He loved his volunteer roles at Ken-a-Set and the Sacred Heart Church soup kitchen where he served for 20 years.
Survivors include Lucille, his loving wife of 67 years; and five children, Rebecca, and her husband, Paul Comeau of Florida and Colorado; Eve and her husband, Joe Foley, of Burnham. Paul A. Audet Jr. "Andy" of Benton, Sarah, and her husband John Dewitt of Sidney, and Thomas and his wife Heather Audet of Brewer; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Paul was predeceased by his parents; brothers and sisters, Irene, William, Robert, Lillian, Jeannine, Gerald; and a granddaughter, Susan Comeau-Nguyen.
At Paul's request, there will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 29, 2016, at Notre Dame Catholic Church, Silver Street, Waterville, with private burial at a later date.
The family would like to express our gratitude to the staff of Mount Saint Joseph for the tender care of our father in his final years.
