    Van Buren--- Simone (Violette) Dubay, 86, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2024 surrounded by her family. Her last few days were filled with visits from those who loved and admired her. The care she received at Borderview Rehab and Living Center along with EMMC was commendable beyond words.

    She was born September 15, 1937 in St. Leonard, NB, Canada, a daughter of the late Romeo and Victoire (Theriault) Violette and married her beloved Cecil Dubay in 1958. Their marriage lasted 46 years until Cecil predeceased her in 2004.

    Simone worked most of her career for Sears Roebuck & Company eventually owning and becoming a Sears Catalog Sales Merchant in Van Buren. For many years, she served as a distinguished board member for the Gateway Federal Credit Union. Along with her full-time business, her strong work ethic and dedication led her to Borderview Rehab & Living Center caring for the elderly on weekends as a CNA for several years. She eventually became Supervisor of the Dietary Department. Working at Borderview brought her great pride and a sense of duty to those she served. She continued to advocate for residents at Borderview until her last days.

    Along with her love of the outdoors, she so loved watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow and prosper. She had very special relationships with her grandchildren throughout the years, which leaves them with many cherished lifetime memories. Faith and prayers brought her peace and comfort throughout the years. Praying a daily rosary was most important to her. In her retirement years, she especially enjoyed trips to California to visit her sister and explore the West Coast.

    She is survived by; two daughters, Cecile Sirois and her companion, Carl Maldonado, Vie Doucette and her husband, Greg, all of Van Buren; one son, Pierre Dubay and his wife, Donna of Pelletier Island, St. Agatha; Simone's love extended to her six grandchildren, Hank (Sarah) Sirois, Michael (Alexis) Sirois, Robbie (Mandy) Dumond, Katie (Taylor) Dumond, Sarah (Bud) Soucy, Noelle and Noah Dubay; great grandchildren, Brooklynne, Henry, Maddie, Darcy, Demi, Lucy and Jacob; step-great grandchildren, Jonah, Giselle, Velina, and Kelton; five siblings, Roger (dec. Edwina) Violette, Jean Marc (Mariette) Violette, Marcella (Fred) Laforge, James (Paulette) Violette, and Joan (David) Jackson; and many nieces and nephews.

    Besides her parents, Simone was predeceased by her husband, and a brother, Pierre “Pit” Violette, a step-great grandson, Audric.

    A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church, Van Buren. Relatives and friends may greet the family Tuesday morning 8:30-9:30 AM at Lajoie Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren. Interment will be in Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery, Caribou.
