Muriel Doucette, 84, died Nov. 20, 2011, at a Van Buren health care facility after a long illness. Daughter of Joseph and Yvonne (Ouellette) Corriveau, Muriel was born Jan. 18, 1927, in Van Buren, and attended schools there until 1945. After graduation, she took a summer course in business and worked as a waitress at her father's restaurant, Uncle Joe's Place. Muriel married Aurele Doucette in 1947. Muriel was a very sociable person with numerous interests and talents. She worked as a teacher, librarian and secretarial aide for the Van Buren District elementary schools and for more than 40 years, worked tirelessly for the Popular Club and Studio Girl cosmetic club. Muriel was a lifetime member of American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 49 of Van Buren, and a leader in organizing her high school class reunions. Muriel was an avid reader, belonging to many book clubs. She enjoyed ceramics, macrame, needlepoint and crewelwork. She also had a passion for collections, town history and old photographs, which she liked to share with everyone. Muriel was also quite a card shark, playing everything from cribbage to solitaire. She loved to go for walks, but in another pair of shoes, Muriel was also an outstanding candlepin bowler. She took home countless trophies, stayed in the top five of her league for more than 40 years, and on one November evening in 1964, Muriel even hit an all-time high single of 149, beating both men and women's league single scores. But undoubtedly, Muriel's most notable accomplishment was a three-year effort of researching, writing and organizing four family genealogy books. In 1984, Muriel published the "Parent," "Doucette," "Ouellette," and "Corriveau" "Genealogy and Photo Albums," which chronicled her family's lineage back to the time they arrived in Maine from France. All four books can be seen in the public library in Van Buren. Muriel was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who genuinely loved life, family and friends. She was an example for all in her unselfishness and values, and will be dearly missed. Muriel is survived by her husband of nearly 65 years, Aurele Doucette of Van Buren; her five children, Rick Doucette and his wife, Helen, of Cyr Plantation, Mona Dumais and her husband, Skip, Greg Doucette and his wife, Vie, all of Van Buren, Debbie Donofrio and her husband, Dean, of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Russell Doucette and his wife, Kay, of Scarborough; and her siblings, Claudette Hallisey of Fort Myers, Fla., Joan Olsen and her husband, Arnold, of East Hartford, Conn., and Bob Corriveau and his wife, Maggie, of North Falmouth, Mass. Muriel is also survived by seven grandchildren, Ryan and Liza Doucette, Nicole (Dumais) Pellenz, Shelli (Dumais) Gibbons, Joshua and Joey Doucette, and Donovan Donofrio; and eight great-grandchildren, Caleb Cyr, Addisyn Doucette, Jacob and Brynn Pellenz, Jonah, Giselle and Valena Doucette, and Syla Gibbons. She was predeceased by three siblings, Leo Corriveau, Ethel McGrath and Gerry Violette. Relatives and friends may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Ouellette-Thibault Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren. She was born in Van Buren, on March 2, 1928, the daughter of Joseph and Yvonne (Ouellette) Corriveau. She is survived by one daughter, Leah Ouellette and her husband Donald of Vernon, Vt.; one son, Michael Violette and his wife Sharon of Winslow; one brother, Robert Corriveau of North Falmouth, Mass.; three sisters, Muriel Doucette of Van Buren, Claudette Hallisey of Fort Myers, Fla., and Joan Olsen of East Hartford, Conn.; four grandchildren, Jacob and Lauren Violette, Naomi Lagasse and Melissa Ouellette; four great-grandchildren, Samantha and Sarah Lagasse, Logan and Ryan Boyd.

Hampden - Lea (Violette) Ouellette was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world unexpectedly on January 4, 2024, at the age of 73. Even though a failing heart took her from this world, her big heart leaves a beacon of light for all.
Lea was born on April 9, 1950, in Van Buren, ME, to Gabriel and Gerry Violette. She now joins her brother, Micheal, who passed away this fall. Lea resided in Hampden, ME, with her loving husband Donald, who was her partner, soulmate, and best friend of 53 years. She was the proud mother of two beautiful daughters, Naomi Lagasse, and Melissa and her husband, Daniel Boyd. Her selflessness, perseverance, and love remains as the foundation of her family and reflects through her grandchildren, Samantha and husband, Erick, Logan, Sarah, Ryan, and Izabella. Lea also shared much love for all of her in-laws, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
The simplest pleasures in life brought her pure joy. Lea loved spending time with her family and friends whether it was going on family vacations, taking girl trips, or playing cards. She loved to make scrapbooks that captured beautiful memories throughout the years. She also loved making puzzles, crafting, and spending lots of money at Micheal's and Hobby Lobby! She always looked forward to daily FaceTime calls from her grandchildren, they held such a special place in her heart. In the evenings you would find Lea relaxing in her recliner with a chilled Pepsi, Lays potato chips, her dog Gabe in her lap, and her husband Donald alongside her.
Lea was one of the strongest, most humble, and caring humans in this world. She brought much light and laughter through her silly and sassy jokes. Leah could put a smile on anyone's face. She truly touched the lives of everyone around her. She showed us what love, loyalty, and the true meaning of family is. Lea will be deeply missed and remains forever in our hearts.
A celebration of life will be held for Lea in the early summer of 2024.

Hamlin - Michael "Mike" Violette, 65, passed away peacefully Saturday evening, October 14, 2023, surrounded by his family at the Aroostook House of Comfort in Presque Isle, ME. He was born on February 7, 1958, in Van Buren, ME. Mike was the son of the late Gabriel and Gerry (Corriveau) Violette.
Mike leaves behind his children, Jacob and his wife, Lindsay Violette, and Lauren Violette of Winslow, ME; his sister, Lea and husband, Donald Ouellette, of Hampden, ME; his fiancée, Denise Parent Martin of Hamlin, ME; her children, Amber Martin of Bradenton, FL, and Anthony and his wife, Tosha Martin, of Van Buren, ME; and 4 grandchildren, Blake, Zachary, Isaac, and Alex.
One thing Mike was known for was his love of music. As a D.J. for several years, Mike was always ready to entertain and light up a room. Mike also enjoyed quality time with his dog, Bailey, and watching his favorite sports teams on television, especially with some good chicken wings! Mike spent his career serving people in Kennebec County. From working as a bench jeweler at Day's Jewelers to helping young adults with developmental disabilities, Mike enjoyed creating personal connections. Although Mike lived in Winslow, ME, for many years, he later accomplished his dream of moving back to "the County." While working at the DMV in Caribou, Mike always looked forward to seeing people from Van Buren, as it made his day when they recognized him and had lots of stories and laughs to share.
Later in life, Mike met his fiancée, Denise, and her family. He enjoyed decorating cookies at Christmas, watching the grandkids play for the hometown, four-wheeling through the farmland, and playing nightly games of Skip-Bo with Denise.
A funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph's Church in Hamlin, ME, on Saturday, November 4, at 10 a.m. Calling hours will be from 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at the same location.
