Mrs. Ozithe Dube, 88, died Thursday at a St. Basile, New Brunswick, nursing home following a short illness. She was a member of the Third Order of Mary and of the Ladies of St. Anne.

She is survived by two sons, Claude of Van Buren and Albert of Kittery; five daughters, Mrs. Patrick (Marie) Cyr of Biddeford, Mrs. Alphonse (Julia) Beaulieu of Montral, Quebec, Mrs. John (Josephine) Inzodda of Boston, Massachusetts, Mrs. Leo (Annette) Violette of Hartford, Connecticut, Mrs. Hercules (Jeannette) Levesque of Frenchville; a step-daughter, Mrs. Emery (Eugenie) Rossignol of Biddeford; and a step-brother, Calixte Violette of Van Buren.

Friends may call at Thibault's Funeral Home Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday at 9 a.m. at St. Bruno's Catholic Church with the Rev. Leo James Cyr, S.M., officiating at a High Mass of Requiem. Burial will be in the family lot in St. Bruno's Cemetery."

Van Buren – Mrs, Rose (Lajoie) Madore Nicholas died July 11 in an Enfield, Conn., nursing home.
She was born Oct. 16, 1892, the daughter of Joseph and Josephine (Violette) Lajoie and lived in Van Buren until 12 years ago, when she moved to Enfield.
She was the widow of Joseph Madore and Arthur Nicholas.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Rita Norris and Mrs. Carlita Corbine, both of Enfield and Mrs Doreen Zaugg of Windsor Locks, Conn.; three sons, Adhemar Madore of Van Buren, Rudolph of Westbrook and Roger Madore of Sanford; three sisters, Mrs. Laura Sallie and Mrs. Jane Hybers, both of Portland, and Mrs. Lillian Dubay of Caribou; two brothers, George of Lewiston and Joseph of Portland; 26 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.
A request was made by the family for memorial donations to the American Cancer Society.
Mass of Christian Burial was held July 15 at St. Bruno’s church, Van Buren, and burial was in the parish cemetary in the family lot.

Abel W. Lajoie, 90, died June 10, 1995, at a Van Buren nursing home. He was born at Cyr Plantation, Feb 26, 1905, the son of William J. and Claudia (Violette) Lajoie. He was employed as a potato farmer in Cyr Plantation until 1940 and then moved to southern Maine where he worked at the Portland Shipyard prior to and during World War II. He then worked as a carpenter for a few years before returning to northern Maine. He relocated to the Portsmouth NH area in 1954 where he lived and worked until his retirement in 1973 as a custodian and carpenter for the City of Portsmouth. He and his wife returned to Van Buren in 1985 where they resided at the Borderview Manor nursing home. He is survived by his wife Annie (Thibodeau) Lajoie of Van Buren; four sons, John A. Lajoie and Garner A. Lajoie both of Van Buren, Bernard W. Lajoie and Conrad D. Lajoie both of Portsmouth, N.H.; one daughter Mrs Bernard (Annieleen) Laughlin of Troy, N.Y.; two sisters Cecile Ouellette of Van Buren and Mrs Albert (Germaine) Tardif of Lewiston; 19 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son Kenneth Lajoie in 1935; six brothers, Willie Lajoie, Felix Lajoie, Emile Lajoie, Gilbert Lajoie, Come Lajoie and Wilfred Lajoie; and by three sisters, Azilda Cormier, Anna Martin and Laura Dube. Relatives and friends may call at the Ouellette-Thibault Funeral Home 12 High St Van Buren 2-4 and 7-9 pm Monday and from 9:30 am until time of services on Tuesday. Jeanette is survived by her 10 children, Pauline and her husband, Gilman "Pitou" Desjardins, of Frenchville, Bob and his wife, Sandy, of Fairbanks, Alaska, Phil and his wife, Karen, of Frenchville, Rita and her husband, Marcel Cyr, of Winslow, Louis and his wife, Bev, of Vienna, Va., Louise and her husband, Ed Beaumont, of Winterport, Cecile and her husband, Gerry Boucher, of Epping, NH, Patrick and his wife, Debra, of Medford, OR., Pat and her husband, Dave Dubois, of Fort Kent and Richard and his wife, Janice, of Hampden; 17 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; a very special niece, Rita Bouchard and her husband, Romeo; a sister-in-law, Claire Dubay; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Hercules in 1977; four brothers, six sisters and one granddaughter.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Wednesday at Saint Luce Catholic Church, Frenchville. Interment followed at the parish cemetery.

Claude Violette, age 94, of Norwalk, died at his home on March 3, 2012. He was the husband of the late RoseMarie Emond Violette. Claude was born in VanBuren, ME., on January 4, 1918, son to the late Calixte and Ernestine Cote Violette. Claude was a bulldozer operator for Deering Construction Co. until 1968, and The Dalling Construction Co. until his retirement in 1980.
Survivors include 6 daughters, Patricia Wilder, Diana Mills, Linda Violette, Dorothy Violette, Susan Hartson and Claudia Keller, 2 brothers, Roland and Lloyd Violette,2 sisters,Norma Gonzalez and Rachael Dubay, 16 grandchildren,29 great-grandchilden,and 4 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Clarence E. Violette, 79, formerly of Lakewood, Wash., died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2008, at Pitt Memorial Hos-pital, Greenville, N.C. Mr. Violette made Fayette-ville, N.C., his home in 2003. He served in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force. He retired from the Air Force as a technical sergeant after 20 years of service. During his military career, Mr. Violette received numerous service awards including the National Defense Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star and the Korean Service Medal. FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Command Sgt. Maj. Leo J. Violette, retired, 75, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008, at his home. Command Sgt. Maj. Violette was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. During his military service of 28 years, he was awarded numerous medals and citations. Highlights of his career include, serving as a Green Beret in the Special Forces, 82nd Airborne training and field medic. Upon retirement from the military, he worked with Cumberland County Department of Social Services for 10 years. Over his lifetime, he was a Little League coach, Boy Scout leader, former Knights of Columbus, avid fisherman and nature lover. He will be remembered for his strong commitment to family, community and country. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Rachel Dubay Violette, “the girl next door,” of the home; three sons, Leo J. Violette Jr. and his wife, Tina, of Sudbury, Canada, Cal Violette and his wife, Allison, of Fayetteville, N.C., and John Violette and his wife, Nikki, of Florence, S.C.; two daughters, Terry Jones of Clayton, N.C., and Gale Greene and her husband, Mike, of Angier, N.C.; six grandchildren; also, five brothers, Roland, Claude, Clarence, Rodney and Lloyd; and three sisters, Irene, Rachel and Norma. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, at at JFK Memorial Chapel, Fort Bragg, N.C. Graveside services, with full military honors, will be held immediately after at Cumberland Memorial Gardens. VAN BUREN---Douglas Rodney Violette, 75, died unexpectedly April 4, 2010 at his Main Street residence. He was born in Van Buren, April 15, 1934, the son of Calixte and Ernestine (Cote) Violette. Doug was an Army veteran of the Korean War and the Vietnam War, serving his country for more than 20 years, retiring as sergeant in 1972. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 49 of Van Buren. Doug, or Rod, as he was known to many people, was a kind and gentle man who loved his family deeply. He is survived by three brothers, Claude Violette of Norwalk, CT, Roland Violette of East Hartford, CT and Lloyd Violette of Van Buren; two sisters, Norma Gonzalez of Buda, TX and Rachel Dubay of New Canaan, CT; many nieces and nephews. He will be especially missed by special niece and nephew, Carol and Barry of Van Buren. Douglas was predeceased by three brothers, Paul, Leo James and Clarence; six sisters, Antoinette, Blanche, Irene, Alice, Doris and Catherine. Philip L. Violette, 85, of 99 Rosedale Street, Lewiston, passed away on Friday, July 30, at his home.

Born in Presque Isle, April 21, 1925, he was the son of Frank and Albion (Letallian) Violette. He married Murial Thibault Violette April 12, 1947. He served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army during World War II and saw battle in Europe. He worked as a butcher for the A & P Grocers for 35 years and also worked on the construction and upkeep of the Seabrook Nuclear Plant. He was a lifetime parishioner of Holy Cross Church and a longtime member of the Prospect Hill Golf Course, where he spent many happy hours playing the game he loved. He was a proud member of Post 22 of the American Legion.

He was a loving and caring man who was always there to help others with a lending hand.

He is survived by his two sons, Tobie Violette and wife, Carla, of Auburn and Daniel Violette of Lewiston; one brother, Ben Violette; and two sisters, Christine Hopkins and Pauline Bussier; four grandchildren, Michael, Pearl, Jennifer and Justin; three great-grandchildren, Kyle, Megan and Griffin; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years; two brothers, Raymond and Angelo; two sisters, Loula Bedette and Muriel Turgeon; and a grandson, Jerred Violette.

He will be missed by many for his kind heart and calm presence.

Benny Joseph Violette, 90, of 52 Rideout Avenue, Lewiston, died Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at his home, surrounded by his family. Born in Presque Isle on October 20, 1926, he was the son of Francois and Albina (L'Italien) Violette.Educated in Presque Isle and Lewiston schools, he was a veteran of World War II. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 and was an electrician's mate on the aircraft carrier USS Boxer, of which he was a proud plank owner. Then Benny was assigned to a troop transport ship as an Electrician's mate where he became the movie projectionist. He was honorably discharged in 1946.On April 10, 1948, he married the love of his life, Aline J. Bell.Benny worked as a machinist at the Bates Mill, the Hill Mill, the Continental Mill and at Bell Farms for many years, retiring early for health reasons in the mid-1970's.He was a member of the Lewiston Social Club, the Lewiston Elks Lodge No. 371, the American Legion, and Le Montagnard Club.He greatly enjoyed wood working, gardening and "bargain shopping" at Mardens. VAN BUREN – Gabriel V. Violette, 76, died May 17, 2004, at a Fort Kent hospital. He was born June 8, 1927, in Van Buren, the son of Joseph S. and Laura (Laferriere) Violette. He was educated in local schools and was a 1945 graduate of Van Buren Boys High School. Gabe also studied electronics at a technical school in Massachusetts. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and a member of the American Legion, Levasseur-Farrell Post No. 49 of Van Buren and the VFW, Lister-Knowlton Post 9389 of Caribou. He was employed as an appliance salesman for Nelson and Small for several years. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Russell R. Violette on April 8, 2023. Born in Van Buren, Maine to Laura and Joseph Violette on August 9, 1933. Russell moved to California in his late teens to work at Rohr Aircraft. He was drafted into the Air Force in 1953 during the Korea War serving our country for 6 years. Russ was the owner of Midland Pipe and Supply in Colton, California until his retirement. He loved to travel with Rita to her native country of Germany, also visiting France, where his grandparents were born. He is survived by his loving wife Rita (Herz); his beloved daughters, Monique and Sonya; daughter-in-law Erin; her children Sophie and Lexi. His pride and joy were his grandchildren, Brea, Joshua, Login, and great granddaughter one year old Astara. Russ will be deeply missed by family and friends. He was a member of St. Vincent Catholic Church in Sun City. Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial will be announced. Interment will be at the Riverside National Cemetery.

James DT Violette COALINGA The rosary for James David Thomas Violette 58 a longtime resident of Coalinga will be recited at 8 pm Friday at the Bragg & Sons Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am Saturday at St Catholic Church. Burial will be at Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
Mr Violette died Wednesday.
He was born in Long Beach and lived in Coalinga 52 years. Mr Violette was comptroller for the Standard Oil Co in Coalinga 29 years. He graduated from Coalinga High School in 1941 and served in the US Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Elks Lodge for 26 years and also was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, and the Catholic Lay Society. Mr Violette also was a member of booster clubs at Coalinga High and West Hills Community College. In 1974 Mr Violette was the Elk of the Year and for 10 years in a row was the top recruiter for the Elks 'Surviving are his wife Peggy and a brother Fred of Coalinga.

Thorval “Thor” Heimdal Moen, age 86, of Finlayson, MN passed away at Essentia-St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth, MN on July 9, 2020 with his family by his side.

Thor was born in Rush City, MN on February 16, 1934 to Alfred and Viola (Violet) Moen. As a small child Thor and his family moved to Hinckley where he lived until he retired to Finlayson in 2002. In 1951 Thor graduated from Hinckley High School where he participated in band, choir, football, basketball and baseball. Thor had started college at Hamline University in St. Paul when he was drafted into the Navy, where he was stationed abroad the aircraft carrier USS Lexington. September 26, 1959 was a special day for Thor, he married his sweetheart Barbara Koski. Thor became a master plumber and owned Hinckley Plumbing and Heating for many years. Throughout the years Thor was an integral part of the Hinckley community, volunteering for 25 years on the Hinckley Fire Department, coaching the junior high basketball team, and being a cubmaster. Many things interested Thor and he had a few hobbies that kept him busy, such as model railroading, hunting, fishing, and attending sporting events. Thor also loved to play baseball and played for the Hinckley Knights helping his team go to state two years in a row. His other all time favorite things to do were camping with his family and traveling.

Thor is preceded in death by his son Mitchell; his parents, Alfred and Viola; in-laws Bernard and Bernice; three siblings, Shirley Schroeder, Mabel Rys, and Beatrice Walker.

Thor is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Barbara; his daughters, Rachael (Mark) Henkel of Finlayson, Elizabeth “Beth” Hulegaard of Fridley; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
