But a serach of these parents didn't uncover a child named Suzanne. It is believed that Suzanne's parents where Anselme Leclerc dit Francour and Marie Luce Parent.     Cumberland Center Dorothy M. “Dot” (Violette) Hill, 97, died peacefully at her home on March 20, 2021, following a short period of declining health. Dot was born in Rehobeth MA on the Fourth of July in 1923 to Thomas and Mattie (Dick) Violette, the youngest of their 13 children. She graduated from Taunton (MA) High School in 1941 and began work at Grinnell Corp. where she also helped raise money for the war effort as a majorette in the company’s Drum and Bugle Corps. In 1946 she married Robert A. Hill, an army sergeant who later became a successful salesman. They moved, from Rhode Island, to Maine in 1963 and raised their family in Falmouth, North Yarmouth, and South Portland. After her husband died in 1981, she worked as a nanny for more than 14 appreciative families and was also an area Avon representative for many years. Dot studied dance in her youth and enjoyed golf, reading and knitting. She was a communicant of Holy Martyrs Church, Falmouth. Her greatest love was being surrounded by her children and their families and she was especially grateful for all her many friends and neighbors that had been a treasured joy to her over the years. Dorothy is survived by seven of her eight children: Judith Hill (spouse John Shattuck) of New Gloucester; Kenneth Hill (partner Maury Tooley) of Pawlet, VT; Wayne Hill of Poughkeepsie, NY; Lorraine “Lori” Robinson (spouse Richard Robinson) of North Yarmouth; Marcia Hill (partner Scott) of Gorham; Glenn Hill (fiancé Susan Kelley) of Raleigh, NC; and Jennifer Viernes (spouse Allan Viernes) of Cornish. She has 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Dot also is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins who were very special to her. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert A. “Bob” Hill, daughter Cynthia Kaiser, son-in-law Ed Keiser, and great-grandson Henry James Hartford. A service will be held at a future date. Arrangements are by Lindquist Funeral Home, Yarmouth.     Franklin H. Violette, 80, of Sumner, died his way, Sunday, August 25, 2013 at home with his kids caring for him, supporting him and holding his hand. His body gave out but his mind was still as sharp as a tack.

    Frank lived a full life. He was born was born in Norwich, CT on July 31, 1933 and grew up in Voluntown, CT as a "State Kid" and raised with his brothers by their Aunt Christine. As a young teenager he attended a Trade School and was fortunate to have a mentor, teacher take him under his wing and teach him much more than a carpentry trade. He enlisted in the Army and proudly served 4 years.

    In October, 1952 he married Jeannette Dionne. Frank's life became complete after their three children were born and he built a home in Auburn. His kids never doubted his love and pride for them. After he and Jan divorced, he continued his career and built a small home for himself on his son's property which he called Siloville because he used lumber from a silo he dismantled from John Martin's homestead in Canton.

    Frank's early career brought him work in heavy construction. He had a hand in building many bridges throughout Maine. He had a special interest in the building of the Brooklyn Bridge and read the book several times. Frank adjusted his career to keep him closer to his growing family. He began to build and remodel homes. His work will live on through several generations. He was a true craftsman and especially loved finish work. He spent many hours building keepsakes for loved ones who will always treasure his gifts. His greatest pleasure was company from his many nieces, nephews, grandkids and friends. Everyone loved Frank. He was a character and salt of the earth. His compassion allowed him to be non judgmental and use encouraging words to anyone with troubled hearts.

    For many years, Frank enjoyed going to the races at Oxford Plains Speedway. He watched many drivers and their successes since the 1960's. Nothing compared to watching his grandson Travis win 5 Late Model Championships. He realized the effort, dedication and support it took as a team. He was part of the team. His presence will always be felt top row, Section I.

    Frank lived a simple life without financial security but considered his life to be rich by being surrounded by his kids and loved ones. He often talked about how gratefully blessed his life was. We are the richer for his life. Frank's legacy is truly love.

    Frank was predeceased by brothers Harold, Woodrow, Henry and Francis Violette.

    Burial with Military Honors will be conducted at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Church Street, Hartford, Maine.

    YORK HARBOR, Maine - Georgiana Donnell, 84, of 18 Simpson Lane, died Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, at her home after a long illness.

    Born in Presque Isle on Aug. 18, 1920, she was the daughter of Edward and Laura (Violet) Tardy. She was a 1939 graduate of Presque Isle High School and a medal-winning speed skater at her school.

    She had worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for several years during World War II and later worked at the ticket sales at the former Mt. Agamenticus Ski Area in York. She started Captain Dan’s Restaurant in York Harbor, which she operated for four years. She also operated Donnell’s Marina for many years.

    She enjoyed reading and was an avid bowler in several leagues at Bowl-A-Rama in Portsmouth. She had just celebrated her 60th wedding anniversary on Nov. 11.

    Survivors include her husband, Daniel P. Donnell of York Harbor; two sons, one daughter, a sister, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

    Georgianna was the wife of Daniel Donnell, who celebrated his 100th birthday in March, 2018. The following story was published in The Bangor Daily News.

    Dan Donnell has been a few places in his life — New York City in eighth grade, a cross country trip not long after high school, sailing down the East Coast once or twice. But he has been more than content to call York Harbor home, this small bit of coastal real estate that has been in his blood and in his family’s blood going back nearly to the dawn of York.

    In good health, spry, quick witted with an understated sense of humor, Donnell will turn 100 Friday, March 16. He looks back on a century of life well lived here in York; but the future holds sway as well, as he looks forward to his twice-weekly volunteer days at York Hospital. Last year, he was a recipient of the United Way of York County Spirit of Service Award for his work there.

    For nearly 50 years, he has lived on the second floor of a cinder block building at the bottom of Simpson Lane in York Harbor — above a space that once housed Cap’n Dan’s restaurant, started by his late wife Georgiana. Every day, he walks up and down the outside steps to his home, which has panoramic views of all sides of the Harbor.

    “I think really, it’s volunteering and my stairs that keep me going,” he said. “I don’t touch booze. I’d play cards, and every once in a while I’d have a glass of sherry but I got off that.” He does take a lot of pills every day, mostly to do with past heart problems and recurring issues with shingles. “But other than that, I’m doing pretty good.”

    Donnell was born in 1918, to a town markedly different than it is today. His father, Capt. Daniel A. Donnell, was a tuna fisherman, lobsterman, charter boat captain, and for 60 years the harbor master. His mother, who died a few months shy of her 102nd birthday, was born in Ireland and came over as a teenager.

    He grew up on Barrells Mill Pond, just the other side of the Route 103 bridge. It was a childhood tied to the water. Grandfather Frank, who lived next door, had “a good sized boat shop right near the bank. That’s long gone. He used to build lapstrake dories that would be fastened with copper rivets. I remember as a kid it was my job to pick up the remains of the copper and give them to my grandfather. I don’t know what he did with them. Probably he could make some money.”

    Growing up, he remembers his entire yard being covered in “stages” — frames stretched with chicken wire used to salt and cure cod and pollock. “That’s how Stage Neck got its name. The Donnells at one time owned most of Stage Neck,” he said.

    “When I was a kid, we’d pile up the fish at night with the skin side up and in the morning we’d flip them to the meat side to cure,” he said. He and his father would also go clamming, “and we’d haul the clams in sleds in the wintertime and sell them around the mill pond and different streets.”

    York Harbor was markedly more bustling during the summer months than it is today, said Donnell. As a teenager, he worked at a drugstore owned by Morton Frye — just down the road from the Lancaster Building, which had a movie theater. “We’d make frappes and sodas. We’d work 70 hours a week straight pay. But we could eat all the ice cream we wanted,” he said with a laugh.

    The Marshall House, where the Stage Neck condominiums are now, and the Emerson House, where St. George’s Church is now, both hired “a ton of college kids. They were everywhere. They’d come in the evenings from the hotels. The sidewalks would be packed.”

    A lot more vessels visited the harbor during his younger years, he said. His father had a dock at the end of Varrell Lane where transient boaters would tie up — not a few of them well known personalities of the time. When he was a young boy, Donnell remembers, Charles and Anne Morrow Lindbergh stopped by on their honeymoon. Later, so did actor Robert Young and his wife, “who had a 75-footer. I just wandered over. He was on his honeymoon going up Maine and was fueling up.”

    His father became friends with Gen. Billy Mitchell, considered the father of the U.S. Air Force. Mitchell came to York Harbor many summers. “He loved to go out tuna fishing with my dad,” said Donnell.

    After returning from service in the Navy during World War II, Donnell took stock. He figured he could capitalize on the busy summer boat traffic in the harbor and enlarged his father’s Varrell Lane dock. “My dad and I dug in a lot of those pilings. They were made of green oak and they are heavy as the dickens.” In his mid-20s, he began Donnell’s Dockage, proving fuel and dock space for boaters as well as renting row boats for recreation. His dad, meanwhile, continued his lobster pound operation.

    Meanwhile, he also worked at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, retiring as a general foreman. It was his job to build “from scratch” the massive, tall cranes that today dot the shipyard’s skyline. “We’d get them in pieces and we built them.”

    By the time he retired at 53, his children were running Donnell’s, and he and his wife bought the wharf next door at the end of Simpson Lane. “I didn’t want to buy this place. Thank God for her, she said we should have it. We lifted the roof up and made a second floor.”

    It was then that she opened Cap’n Dan’s Restaurant.

    “She’d get up at 4 or 5 in the morning and boil lobsters,” he said. “She cooked every single day and picked out the meat. She’d stay until 9 or 10 at night. She was a great lady.”

    It was a difficult adjustment for him after she died in 2004, Donnell admits. But not long afterward Donnell began volunteering at the hospital.

    “At the time, I guess it was about the only place to volunteer,” he said. “It’s a great place to meet people and I’ve met some fantastic people both on staff and volunteers. On Mondays, I’m at the entrance and I escort people to wherever they want to go. I like that. On Thursdays, I work in supply.

    “I love it. If you stay home, you don’t meet a damned person,” he said with a laugh.

    Friends and family will gather Saturday, March 17, to celebrate Donnell’s centennial birthday. There will be an open house at the York Harbor Inn from 2 to 5 p.m., and those who know him are invited to stop by and wish him well.

Mrs. Gagnon enjoyed playing bridge and knitting.     Awarded the Silver Star for actions in Korea

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Corporal Joseph C. D. Violette (ASN: RA-11198353), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Medical Company, 31st Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division, in action near Mundung-ni, Korea, on 6 November 1951. On this date, Corporal Violette was a Medical Aid Man for Tank Company which was on a patrol. Early in the patrol, the lead tank was struck and disabled by enemy anti-tank fire. With complete disregard for his own personal safety, Corporal Violette immediately came forward through an enemy mine field in a light vehicle (M-39 Personnel Carrier). Upon his arrival at the burning tank, Corporal Violette dismounted and under a hail of enemy anti-tank, mortar, automatic weapons and small arms fire, personally supervised and aided in the removing of an unconscious man from the turret of the enflamed tank. Without thought for his own safety, he remained exposed to the intense enemy fire until he had loaded the wounded on the M-39. As the M-39 was returning to friendly lines, the vehicle hit an enemy mine and over-turned. Corporal Violette had saved the lives of the men trapped in the burning tank, but sacrificed his own, as he was mortally injured in the overturning of the evacuation vehicle. The gallantry displayed by Corporal Violette reflects great credit on himself and is in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service.

    PORT RICHEY, Fla. – Norman J. Violette, 87, formerly of East Hartford, Conn., and Winterville, died May 22, 2013. He was born in Van Buren.
    He was a World War II U.S. Navy Veteran who proudly served in the Europeon and Pacific theaters. He was the founder of Lakeview Motors, Fort Kent. A member of Fort Kent Golf Club and a selectmen in Winterville Plantation.
    He was predeceased by sons, Michael, Norman and James. He is survived by brother, Reginald Violette of Glastonbury, Conn.; children, Carleen Collins, Mark Violette and Carol Bennett; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He will also be missed by Dorothy Violette.
    Services will be held June 22 in Eagle Lake.
