    SACO - Leona Violette, 90, a longtime Saco resident, formerly of 62 Pleasant Street, died this morning at the Family Living Center. The daughter of Onesime and Leonie Cyr Violette, she was born August 9, 1903 in Old Town and attended school there. She had been a resident of Saco for 48 years after moving from Old Town. An active member of Notre Dame de Lourdes Church in Saco, Ms. Violette spent considerable time crocheting and handcrafting items that she donated for fund raisers at Notre Dame de Lourdes School. For more than 25 year she was employed by the Pepperell Manufacturing Company in Biddeford. She is survived by several cousins.

    Resident of Corte Madera
    Joseph Violette, aged 95, passed away on September 14, 2017. Joe was born and raised in Independence, Oregon – a small farming community. After High School he attended Oregon State where he was in the ROTC, signed up for the Enlisted Reserves and attended Officers Candidate School before being called to active duty for World War II, interrupting his college studies. Joe served for 4 years, spending time stationed in Okinawa, Japan, rising to the rank of Captain and Commanding Officer of the Engineer Heavy Shop Company.
    After returning from military duty, he completed his Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering at Oregon State and a Master's degree in Engineering from Yale. After graduation, Joe moved to the Northern California Bay Area. He was able to reconnect with his High School sweetheart Glenna and they began dating again. They were married in 1949 and had 66 wonderful years together until Glenna's passing in 2016.
    Joe had his first civilian job working at Standard Oil and its subsidiary California Research & Development (CR&D). It was there that Joe got his first taste of Operational Management in the design and construction of a small research nuclear reactor. That experience led to his career choice that spanned almost 50 years. Joe was most proud of being the Mechanical Engineer assigned to manage the designing and building of General Electric's Vallecitos Boiling Water Reactor. He was also there when it was de-commissioned in 1962. He enjoyed the annual GE reunion get-togethers in Livermore where he loved exchanging stories about those days. Joe went on to manage several more nuclear reactor construction projects in New Jersey, Minnesota, and Pennsylvania. He and Glenna also temporarily relocated to Tokyo, Japan for 3 years as Bechtel's technical representative interfacing with Hitachi, Toshiba and Mitsubishi.
    Joe was a cherished gift to his daughters. He was always there to support them, coming up with logical solutions to any of their problems and was always in demand for his building skills. On many weekends you could find him at one of his daughter's home doing maintenance or building projects, which he enjoyed. He loved spending time with family for celebrations and vacations.
    He was preceded in death by his siblings Margaret, Oral and Lowell. He is survived by his 2 daughters Charmene McClarren and Corinne Grant, 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
    Those we love can never be more than a thought away. Memories of Joe will live in our hearts always.
    A Private celebration of life will be held. Interment will be at Valley Memorial Park in Novato.

She was born Sept. 25, 1923, in Patten, the daughter of Lawrence J. and Melonie (Charette) Violette. She graduated from Patten Academy. During World War II she graduated from Eastern Maine General Hospital as a Cadet Nurse. She had worked as a nurse in several capacities, including private duty, Veterans Hospitals in New York and Massachusetts, and then at Hibbard Nursing Home in Dover-Foxcroft, and as a school nurse for SAD No. 68. She was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, the Bernadettes, Ultreya, the Junior Cosmopolitan Club, Piscataquis Extension, VFW Auxiliary, The Silver Threads Quilters, and Delta Kappa Omicron. She is survived by three daughters, Brenda and her husband, Francis “Pug” Avery, of Milford, Anne and her husband, David Taft, of Harpswell, Laurie and her husband, David Lachance, of Manchester; a brother, Joseph and his wife, Margaret Violette, of Houlton; four grandchildren, Matthew and Christopher Avery, Michael and Andrew Lachance. She was predeceased by a brother, Edward Violette. Friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, June 17, 2004, at the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Friday, June 18, at St. Thomas Catholic Church, with Fr. James Robichaud, celebrant, assisted by Deacon Dean Lachance.     LITTLETON and DREWS LAKE – Joseph I. Violette, 88, passed away peacefully June 27, 2013, with his wife, Margaret, by his side at a Houlton health care facility. He was born Oct. 15, 1924, in Patten, son of Lawrence and Minne (Shorette) Violette.
    Joe served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Italy and Germany during the D-day invasion. He married Margaret Melville in 1948. He owned and operated Joe Violette & Son Construction Company for many years working right up to the age of 80.
    Joe is survived by his wife of 65 years, Margaret of Houlton; two sons, Glenn Violette and wife, Patricia, of Littleton, and Peter Violette and wife, Elizabeth, of Virginia; daughter-in-law, Norma Violette of Monticello; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; son, David; brother, Edward; and granddaughter, Michelle.
    Friends may call 11 a.m. until the time of the service 1 p.m. Sunday, at Dunn Funeral Home, with the Rev. Steve Straubel officiating. Interment will be at Littleton Cemetery.     PATTEN and BENEDICTA – Frank T. Violette, 74, died Dec. 17, 2005, at his home with his family at his side. He was born Nov. 27, 1931, in Patten, the son of John Dennis and Ruth (Carr) Violette. Frank graduated from Patten Academy in 1951, and was a self-employed carpenter most of his life. He was a member of the Stetson Memorial United Methodist Church, Patten, where he was an active member of the UM Mens Club and cooked for all of their functions. He was also a member of the Patten Liars Club. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patricia (Leavitt) Volette; one son, Scott and his wife, Lori Violette; and one daughter, Roanne Violette, all of Benedicta. Known to his three loving grandchildren as “Papa,” Joshua and his fiance, Paula, and special little Lillianna, all of Vermont, and Taren and Brandi of Benedicta; one sister, Ann and her husband, Wallace Townsend, of Island Falls; two brothers, F. Raymond and his wife, Theresa Violette, of Massachusetts and Alton Violette of Patten; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, and one brother, John. Friends may call 10-noon Wednesday, at the Stetson Memorial United Methodist Church, Patten, with funeral services being held noon with the Rev. Tae Sun Tang officiating. Spring interment will be in the Sherman Station Cemetery.
