    CYR, Leo "Gene" Leo "Gene" Cyr passed away on Wednesday, (January 25, 2006) at the Fort Walton Beach Medical Center in Fort Walton Beach, FL with his wife and daughter at his side. Gene was born on August 5, 1928 in Westbrook, ME to the late Mary Violette Cyr and Leo L. Cyr. Gene spent his time growing up in Van Buren with his best friend Claude Violette. As the oldest boy in a large family, Gene started working at a young age in order to help support his mother, brother, and sisters. He excelled in positions as diverse as meat butcher to mechanic. For four years Gene served in Europe as a mechanic in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. Upon returning to the states, Gene started working for Pratt & Whitney in Southington and retired after more than 40 years. After retiring from his position as an inspector, he visited friends on the Emerald Coast and fell in love with the area. He has been a resident of Fort Walton Beach for over 11 years and a part-time resident in Southington where he spent his summers. Gene was predeceased by his grandson, Derek Cyr and sisters, Marlene Gordon and Ann Hudenburg. Gene is survived by his wife and best friend, Carol King Cyr; his children. Joanne Cyr of Trumbull, Mark Cyr of Fairfax, VT, and Stephanie Cyr of Niceville, FL; the mother of his children, Doris Cyr of Plantsville; grandchildren, Victoria, Todd, Richard, Brad and Nicole and two great grandchildren; brother, Randy Cyr; sisters, Jeannine Trufant and Carlita Brown in Maine; sister, Glenda Ketola in Melbourne, FL, and brother-in-law, Don Hudenburg in Virginia, Carol's children, Wayne Tirkot, Carolyn Doski, Ward King of Connecticut, and Jim King of Palm Bay, FL, and many nieces and nephews. Gene also left behind many great friends and neighbors. Gene was known for his quick wit and generous spirit. He was known by his family and neighbors as one to always share his home grown vegetables and home made soup along with vinegar based home remedies. Gene was an active friend of Bill W's for almost 30 years where he was known as the "Marble Man." Through his fellowship in the program he has touched many lives, inspired many, and handed out thousands of marbles. He will be deeply missed by all knew and loved him. A time of visitation will be from 3-5 p.m., Monday, January 30, at Heritage Gardens Funeral Home followed by a Memorial Service at 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made payable to: The Alano Club, 52 Beal Parkway NW, Fort Walton Beach, FL 32548. A Connecticut service will be held at a later date. Heritage Gardens Funeral Home, 2201 N. Partin Drive, Niceville, FL has been entrusted with arrangements.
