Mildred W. Violette EASTON -- Mildred W. Violette, 81, of County Road 113, died Friday, Nov. 15, 2002, at her home. Born March 4, 1921, at the family farm in Easton, she was the daughter of the late T. Francis and Philamone Young Walsh. Mrs. Violette served as a Lieutenant with the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Korean conflict. She was a flight nurse at several locations around the world and had also served at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. She took great pride in being a mother and was involved with the family farm. She was also a communicant of Notre Dame-Visitation Church in Schuylerville. Her husband, Glenn M. Violette, died in 1996. Survivors include one daughter, Judith Balaty of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four sons, Glenn, Thomas and John Violette of Easton and James Violette of Pittsford; one sister, Patricia Smaldone of Waldorf, Md.; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002, at Notre Dame-Visitation Church with the Rev. Christopher Welch officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 13 Gates Ave., Schuylerville. Patricia Walsh Smaldone went home to the Lord on Sunday, October 5, 2014 in Baltimore, MD, with her son at her side.
Born Mary Patricia Walsh to T. Francis Walsh & Philomone Young Walsh on October 12, 1926 at the family farm in Easton, NY. Pat graduated from Schuylerville High School in Schuylerville, NY. She continued her education at the State University of NY at Oswego, graduating with a degree in education.
She married Richard C. Smaldone of South Glens Falls, NY, in 1947. The couple celebrated 56 years of marriage until Richard's death in 2003.
Pat began her teaching career in elementary education in 1947 at the Corinth Central School System, Corinth, NY and finally retired from Tanglewood Elementary School in South Glens Falls, NY in 1981. After her retirement she volunteered with numerous organizations including The Hyde Collection Art Museum in Glens Falls, NY. She was a member of the Red Hat Society.
She was predeceased by her husband, Richard; her parents Francis & Philomone & her sisters: Claire (Edson) Winslow, Mildred (Glenn) Violette, Helen (Roscoe) Bain, Barbara (Angus) McDonald, & Kathleen (Mark) Duby. She is survived by her son, Bruce Thomas Smaldone, grandson, Nicholas Sarto (Ashley) Smaldone, great grandsons, Eric Michael Mayer & Alexander Maximus Smaldone; and numerous nieces and nephews and former students.
