He was originally from Lille, Maine, one of 11 children born to Paul and Orise Oulette Levasseur. He and his wife, Marie Gallinelli Levasseur, lived in Sarasota, Fla. for more than 20 years since his retirement from Pratt and Whitney Aircraft (Manchester, Conn).

He is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years, Marie (originally from Gilman, Vt.;) and two children, Jim Levasseur, of Sanford, Fla., his partner. Sam, and Sandra L. Frederick. of Meriden, (husband, George). He has two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren all living in the Meriden area. He enjoyed taking his entire family on cruises to Bermuda, Alaska and the Caribbean. He has many nieces and nephews living mostly in Connecticut, California, Colorado, and Florida. Joe was a World War II Veteran having bravely served in Italy and Africa where he sustained life-long hearing damage. He enjoyed his summers in Clinton, fishing and boating.
