Frenchville---Steven H. Violette, 69, of Frenchville, Maine passed away peacefully at Northern Maine Medical Center on October 24th following a courageous battle with cancer.
Steven was born on December 21, 1954 in Lewiston, Maine to parents Gabrielle and Francis Violette.
After graduation from Lewiston High School, he studied electronics at Central Maine Community College. Following college, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served on active duty from 1974-1978. He was an AQ4, stationed aboard the USS Saratoga based in Air Station, Virginia. He was awarded a good conduct medal in 1976.
Following his time in the service, he went on to work for NASA on assignment in the Marshall Islands measuring tectonic plate shifts to help predict earthquake activity.
Steven had a brilliant mind for engineering and worked as an automation technician for Gates and then Watts Water Technologies before retiring in 2016.
He had an adventurous zest for life and enjoyed spending time with his beloved pets, exploring the great outdoors, tending to his plants, looking at the stars through his telescope, and camping in Baxter State Park with family and friends.
A sports enthusiast, he loved watching the Patriots, Red Sox and Celtics, as well as attending his children and grandchildren's baseball and softball games as a spectator, fan and occasional volunteer umpire.
Steven is survived by his wife of 20 years, Karen Violette of Frenchville; four children, Jenny Gleason of Auburn, Andrya Duteau and husband Armand of Lewiston, Scott Violette and wife Shannon of West Paris, Coleen Elias of Litchfield; siblings Susan Violette Palange and husband Andrew of Lewiston, David Violette and wife Kristina of Lewiston, Gail Coolidge and husband Charles of Mechanic Falls, and Gary Violette and wife Barbara of Auburn; 11 grandchildren, Kyle, Taylor-Rae, Alissa, Mckenna, Alivia, Jackson, Kelsey, Mckinley, Ashton, Avey and Ayla; 2 great-grandchildren, Mitchell and Mason, several nieces and nephews, and special friend Pat Quinn.
He was predeceased by his parents Gabrielle and Francis Violette and siblings Danny Violette and Sandra (Violette) Gammon.
The family wishes to thank the dedicated healthcare professionals at Northern Maine Medical Center for their excellent care and compassion.
A private celebration of life will be held with his family and friends.
