      Thorval “Thor” Heimdal Moen, age 86, of Finlayson, MN passed away at Essentia-St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth, MN on July 9, 2020 with his family by his side.

      Thor was born in Rush City, MN on February 16, 1934 to Alfred and Viola (Violet) Moen. As a small child Thor and his family moved to Hinckley where he lived until he retired to Finlayson in 2002. In 1951 Thor graduated from Hinckley High School where he participated in band, choir, football, basketball and baseball. Thor had started college at Hamline University in St. Paul when he was drafted into the Navy, where he was stationed abroad the aircraft carrier USS Lexington. September 26, 1959 was a special day for Thor, he married his sweetheart Barbara Koski. Thor became a master plumber and owned Hinckley Plumbing and Heating for many years. Throughout the years Thor was an integral part of the Hinckley community, volunteering for 25 years on the Hinckley Fire Department, coaching the junior high basketball team, and being a cubmaster. Many things interested Thor and he had a few hobbies that kept him busy, such as model railroading, hunting, fishing, and attending sporting events. Thor also loved to play baseball and played for the Hinckley Knights helping his team go to state two years in a row. His other all time favorite things to do were camping with his family and traveling.

      Thor is preceded in death by his son Mitchell; his parents, Alfred and Viola; in-laws Bernard and Bernice; three siblings, Shirley Schroeder, Mabel Rys, and Beatrice Walker.

      Thor is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Barbara; his daughters, Rachael (Mark) Henkel of Finlayson, Elizabeth “Beth” Hulegaard of Fridley; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
