Eva M. Nunley, 90, peacefully entered into eternal life on January 21, 2024. She was born July 23, 1933, in Van Buren, a daughter of the late Fred and Catherine (Martin) Violette.
Eva relocated to Michigan to assist her sister. There she met the love of her life, Curtis, and quickly married. Eva was a dedicated mother and wife who mothered six children. Following the passing of her husband after 24 years, Eva returned to her beloved hometown of Van Buren to be closer to her mother and siblings. She enjoyed playing BINGO at the American Legion and Knights of Columbus for many years, and she also assisted local seniors to BINGO games. Her funny sense of humor was appreciated by everyone who knew her well and she was often very entertaining. An avid cook, none of her visiting friends or family ever left her home with an empty stomach. Her homemade apple pie was a delight for her children during their many visits. She was a long-time member of the Daughters of Isabella and a parishioner of St. Bruno-St. Remi Church.
She is survived by four children, Linda Rothstein and her husband Jay of Michigan, Raymond Nunley of Van Buren, Brenda Henderson and her husband Don of Arizona, and Donna Mello of Maine; two siblings, Robert Violette and his wife Mona, and Shirley Violette, all of Van Buren; eight grandchildren; one great granddaughter and a great grandson on the way; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Eva was predeceased by her husband of 23 years, Curtis Nunley in 1975; two children, Alvin Nunley in 2022 and Sandra Sanderson in 2017; brothers, George, Omer, Alfred, and Nelson Violette; and sisters, Giberte Pasko, Rita Bergen, Jeannette Lint, Freda Cyr, Cecile Violette, and Aline Deese.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Friday, June 21, 2024, at St. Bruno-St. Remi Church, Main St. Van Buren. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are a service of Lajoie Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren.
