- Our mom was born on December 18, 1917 to Edward Forquer and Sophia Bailey Forquer. Doris was the youngest of the Forquer children and grew up in Granger, Washington with brothers John and James and sisters Gladys and Helen. On December 14th, 1937 she married Louis Violette and settled on a farm in the Wapato-Toppenish area. She was married to our father for 58 years before he passed in October 1996 . She was also preceded in death by her parents as well as her brothers and sisters. She passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2011 at the grand age of 93.
Mom was born and raised on a farm and it was also in this setting where she raised her seven children. Our mother was a very caring and giving individual. She volunteered for several Catholic charities, handing out food and making quilts. She loved her family and worked hard to keep up with all of the “chores” essential to raising seven children. Mom was a great cook and hosted many farm style meals throughout the years. Mom was also well know for her canned foods which included, fruits, meats, pie filling, pickles, tomato sauce and other bounty from her beautiful garden. Those who knew our mother, recall that she was always the first one up in the morning and the last one to bed each night. Mom made each person who entered our home feel welcomed and special; and to her, they were. She modeled what a loving mother and caring grandmother looks like.
Mom was fun to be with. She had a great sense of humor and when something struck her as funny; her uncontrolled laughter would infect everyone around her. She easily brought people into her circle of friends. Her many hobbies included needlework, preserving food, gardening, crafts, and bargain shopping. With seven children, that is the only way to shop. She made many quilts over the years to keep her children warm. Mom spent countless hours engaged in needle work leading up to her last few years. She took special pride in her creative skills and exhibited a caring heart through making unique quilts for each of her grandchildren.
Doris is survived by her seven children: Lenard Violette (Judy) of Kennewick; Rose Hauck (Richard) of Yakima, Donald Violette (Jacquie) of Grandview, Jerry Violette (Rhonda) of Kennewick, Sharon Parrish (Chuck) of Yakima, Jim Violette (Becki) of Yakima, and Irene McConaghy (Rich) of Beaverton, Oregon. Mom has 24 Grandchildren and 18 Great Grandchildren.
Thank you to the staff at Summitview Living Care for taking wonderful care of our mom as if she were your own. Our hearts are heavy with her passing and she will be greatly missed.
